Hi there. My husband Bryan and I had been trying for four years to conceive when we found out we were pregnant in May 2002. We were thrilled. We had gone through surgeries for endometriosis and had done two rounds of (100 mg) Clomid. At our 5 week ultrasound, we found out we were having twins!!!!! How exciting!!!!!!!!
10 weeks 4 days (7/15/02) ~ I woke up in the morning, went to the bathroom and saw dark brown blood on the toilet paper and a couple drips in the toilet. Bryan and I went to the emergency room and the wonderful staff there helped as much as they could. We got an u/s and they saw the hematoma. I had never heard of this before. Not knowing about it, I waited for the doctor to come talk to us. He was very un-informative and sounded negative. The nurse sounded positive, so I was so confused.
10 weeks 5 days (7/14/02) ~ Woke up at 3:30 am and went to the bathroom and had quite a bit of dark red blood in the toilet. I couldn't sleep after that, so I waited to make an appointment with my o.b. We got one, but, unfortunately my o.b was on holiday, so I saw his replacement. She was very nice but I found that she did A LOT of talking, but NO information . . . blah-blah-blah is what it sounded like to me. She never discussed the size or position or anything. She just said to take it easy, not lift anything heavy, which I am already trying to do. She checked their heartbeats with the doppler and they were there and also checked my cervix, which was tight. That was it and we left.
11 weeks 2 days (7/18/02) ~ I am no longer nervous about getting out of the 1st trimester. I haven't spotted for 2 days and the 2 days before that I spotted very minimally. I have put myself on bedrest. I am in bed 80% of the time. I am sure this is helping even though the dr's say no. We have made another appointment with another ob in my office. I've seen him once before and will go see him to get his opinion. My original dr. won't be back until July 29th, this appointment is on the 23rd. I'll keep in touch when we are done seeing him.
12 weeks 0 days (7/23/02) ~ I had an appointment today with the nicest doctor. He was so very nice and reassuring. I told him my story and he said he felt rather positive about all this. He thought it was good that it had bled out on the 15th and that there has been no recurrence and this could most definitely give it the chance it needs to heal up. He also thought that if this baby hadn't m/c by now-it probably won't because it has a good attachment. He told us that everything looked good so far and that the most important thing is how the babies are growing right now. I still don't feel all that better about this, but I am doing my best to relax and to not stress out. This is TOTALLY out of my control and is so hard to accept but I will try. My next appointment is with my regular doctor on Aug 2nd. We will drill him on this as well and will most likely schedule a 16 week u/s. The dr also said that my hematoma wasn't as big as I think it is-that it is pretty much standard for how far along I am blah-blah-blah. But, he said if anything happens to let them know. Really no new info but at least he was nice. We did get to hear the h/b's though and that was awesome. I'll keep you posted.
12 weeks, 1 day (7/24/02) ~ Great!!! Woke up to some light brown spotting-not heavy at all but am concerned that this is the beginning of another bleed like last time. I phoned the dr and he said that if it's bright red and I am cramping then get down to the ER and that he didn't know what all this meant regarding another bleed.
12 weeks, 5 days (7/28/02) ~ Well, I did end up spotting for two days very, very lightly. But last night before I went to bed, I noticed some brown clearish blood on the tp, so I put a pad on and thank God I did, because when I woke up this morning, the hematoma had bled itself out. I would say about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of dark reddish brown blood and now I am still spotting dark brown. Also, when I went to the bathroom I saw two sort of stringy looking brown clots. (?) It looked more like tissue then a solid clot, kind of pulpy. My tummy is sore as well, like very mild cramps. If it gets worse we will go to the ER. I have never gushed any blood though and from how it seems so far, I spot brown, then the hematoma leaks out, and then I spot brown and that's it. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks. We have an appointment with my regular dr on August 2nd.
26 weeks, 3 days (11/01/02) ~ Hi there girls. When I was at my 18 week u/s,they could not find any of the hematoma! I believe it started to shrink at 12 weeks because I had an u/s then, when my dr came back, and it had went from 7 cm to 2 cm. I believe the bedrest helped ALOT even though it wasn't prescribed to me, but it made me feel better mentally that I was doing all I could for these babies. There have been so many other problems since finding out the hematoma is gone. I have an extremly irritable uterus and am hoping I can make it thru to at least 34 weeks. The doctor said I have the crankiest uterus he has ever come across...GREAT!! I hope this has helped someone out there-my hematoma was a big one and it went away!!! Yours can too!!!!
Robin, I am so sorry of your loss and think it is awesome how you got this website going. You are helping A LOT of women!!!!
