I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma with my second child, my son, Ethan. He was born on November 16, 2000. I have a history of miscarriage and had 2 before having a healthy (perfect) pregnancy with my daughter, Avery (born January 23, 1999).
Having 2 miscarriages certainly does put a "damper" on being pregnant, so when I started having heavy spotting with Ethan, I was really scared. After 4 ultrasounds, my OB said it was a SH. Fortunately, it was a small area, but I still had bleeding for the first trimester. I went on to have a perfect pregnancy, labor and delivery. I kept in touch with a group of women who were in the same situation. We all posted messages on a Baby Center message board for SH. All of them went on to deliver perfect babies. Has anyone heard of a connection between SH and baby boys? I heard something about the extra testosterone or something...and interestingly, everyone on the SH message board (at that time) had boys!
We are now expecting our 3rd (yeah!!!) baby in late March/early April and I have had some heavy spotting. Obviously, I am very nervous about the bleeding and worried about the worst. I went into the ER on Saturday to see if I had a miscarriage. Thankfully, the baby is still there and has a nice strong heart beat. I have an OB appt. tomorrow and will discuss the possibility of another SH.
Update! February 21, 2002
I am 34 weeks right now and have not had bleeding since my 4 1/2 month of pregnancy. I have had an ultrasound since then and no sign of the SH and the baby is looking fine. We are having a girl! Just a few more weeks to go and all is looking well. I hope everyone can stay positive.
