Kathleen's Story
Updated December 10, 2001

I (like Robin) had a baby due on January 23, 2002 that we lost in late May after three years of medical treatment to conceive. We (husband & self) are pregnant again following invitro fertilization in August 2001, and this time we are faced with a subchorionic hemmorhage and scared this will end in miscarriage as well. For infertility has brought with it consistent crashing lows.

I am so terribly grateful for the beautiful webpage you have created to commemorate Nathaniel, but also to help women like me suffering because all the doctor's will say is it is in God's hands. Sadly, this brings no consolation when I have ached for a child for so many years and spent every last dollar to fund our medical treatment.

My bleed started at 4 weeks 5 days and was light spotting. I never passed any clots though I had red blood on two occasions. The spotting lasted for about 21 days and has stopped altogher. We are now 10 weeks, 1 day. The sch is above the placenta; of course, the worst place it could be and is at 2 cm as of two weeks ago. My next ultrasound is Wednesday and, of course, I'm terrified, because it keeps growing.

Best of luck to you all!

Update! December 10, 2001

I had 2 dreams when I was 6 weeks pregnant. One that I would lose the baby at 5 months and the other that my cervix would ripen too soon. I dismissed the cervix dream, because I've never had problems with this. My initial sch healed at 12 weeks. At 14 weeks, I started leaking amniotic fluid. The hospital radiologist noticed I had a short cervix and referred me back to OB. OB referred me to a high risk doctor. The cervix began to shorten and funnel at 16w & a cerclage (stitch) was put in to "hopefully" hold the cervix.

I went in last Friday for check on the cervix & the stitch was holding. The high risk doctor didn't mention it, but I SAW another sch that was not there the week before. I asked the sonographer if that was a sch and she said, "yes, but we're not worried about it yet."

Therefore, between my nightmares, the cervix surgery, and the NEW sch, I am LOST and heartbroken. I am currently 18 weeks 4 days and having contractions. They put me back on a muscle relaxer today called Procardia.

I told my husband tonight if anything happens to Benjamin, I can't do it anymore. The infertility treatments, the heartbreak, etc.
