I was diagnosed with a subchrorionic hematoma at 4 weeks. I had dark brown spotting and cramping every day to few days until 10.3 weeks. I was put on modified bedrest and instructed plenty of fluids and no lifting. (Ha ha, I had a 2 year old son!) Said I could take Benedryl 50 mg for the cramping to relax my uterus. They told me there was nothing they could do; just hope for the best and it was probably a fluke.
I didn't have any problems with my pregnancy with my son and they said I probably wouldn't have one of these again. I'm really hoping not. I was really scared! I never had a real bleed like some people do, thankfully. Just dark spotting. I didn't have any more spotting after 10.3 wks. I don't know how big the hematoma was at first, but at 12 weeks, it was 1.5 x 1.5 centimeters. At my 18 week routine sonogram, it was gone and I never had any more problems. My daughter was born perfectly healthy at 39.5 wks on September 2, 2001. She was 7 pounds 5.6 ounces, and 20 inches long. She is now 3 months old and I think everyday how blessed I am that I didn't lose her!
I hope that my story will give others hope! Thanks for listening!
