About the Gillihan Family

All the Gillihans in the world may be descendents of a William Gillihan of South Carolina, born about 1740,   who fought in the Revolutionary War.  Although it sounds Irish, the name Gillihan may not be an authentic Irish name. In Irish Gaelic "Gilli" or "Gille" refers to a young servant boy. However, it seems there is no such word as "han." Family members have been unable to locate any Gillihans in Ireland, or at least none who will admit to it.

Our reunion included most of the descendants of Arvil Edgar Gillihan and Verla Gertrude (Greer) Gillihan. The kinfolk came from all corners of the United States to the reunion, which is held every three years.  This is to give Potosi time to recover.
