A Tail of Two Kitties
Way back in the 60's, before Charmie was even a twinkle in her great grandmother's eye, I was a wandering hippie in search of The Meaning of Life. Of course I had always loved cats, but the real conflict for me was: Persian or Siamese? I had begun to love Siamese cats after seeing the movie "That Darn Cat!" several times-Persians; I had loved as a child. My girlfriends and I would give each other enamel or cloisonne' cat pins for our birthdays, and when I wasn't doing homework, I was reading whatever book about cats I could find in the library. I remember daydreaming about going to an Illinois cat show with my best friend (we never got there, though). So, while reading numerous cat books and collecting cat jewelry, I often wondered: which cat is right for me? Persians were the perfect luxury cat-long haired and short-faced and cuddly. But Siamese cats seemed so intelligent and beautifully marked. What a dilemma! It literally took years for me to make a choice between two kitties and look for a Persian cat. Luckily, I found Charmie!
