Photos of Elektra's Women's Painting Group in Ribeira Principal
Painting baby clothes for newborn babies of villagers as my gift to them. My artistic foundation is what I have been using for teaching single mothers how to make miniature paintings (3" x 3") to sell to tourists for extra income generation in the coming years.
Three baby t-shirts I painted with scenes of Cape Verde and Disney designs.
We had our first Women's Painting Group meetings in October, which went very well. I taught the color wheel and then made french toast for the 20 women who showed up with their babies strapped on their backs. Everyone was amazed to learn to mix color and cook a new dish. Since November, we have been focusing on composition, color, shadow, and balance.
Because we are not focused on painting techniques yet, I have been using colored pencils for 3 months to teach them drawing basics.
Taken in December 2002, not many women had showed up yet for this particular class, although my classes are very popular with little girls (who have never taken art classes or owned art supplies).
