History

Where to start? The Exposures are made up of four guys from Pennsylvania. Kirk Deist and Matt reside in Orrtanna, PA. Eric and Joel Dyar live in Gettysburg, PA. To who does The Exposures owe its formation? This is a very simple process that took place about 5 years ago.

Miguel (our old bassist) had just built a new passion in music for Green Day and The Offspring. One day he let his best friend and next door neighbor, Kirk, borrow The Offspring's "Smash" album. That is where the obsession for music developed for The Exposures. Kirk later became interested in guitar. His parents bought him one as a Christmas gift one year. He instantly started learning the basics of guitar and then became actively involved in a band called Dank. Members of this band included himself, Shane Moulton, Brandon Hatcher, Matt Van Dyke, and Adam Casto. This was Kirk's very first experience in a band, and he learned a lot from it, which he later brought to The Exposures.

When Dank fell apart, Kirk and Brandon joined forces with Josh Matteson. They held a few practices together but never enough to stick together as a band. Miguel later became interested in joining a band too. Being Kirk's best friend, Kirk invited Miguel to practice with Josh one day. Very quickly, Miguel became part of the band, but he had no instrument yet, so he only sang a few songs. Matt, who was a huge Weezer fan, heard that the band was covering songs by them. He became interested in watching the band play. One day in October of 2001, he came to see "Situation Unknown" in action. Jokingly, the band collectively said that he would be the Roadie for future gigs. Little did the band know that he would become The Exposures's future lead guitarist and lead singer. He sang "Island In The Sun" and right away the band knew he was a perfect fit.

Unfortunately, problems arose with "Situation Unknown" in the later months of 2001. Kirk, Miguel, Matt, and Josh were having simple disagreements, but it was enough to break up the band. A great interest in music is what kept Kirk, Miguel, and Matt together.

Who was the next member of the band??? Under a new name, "Breaking Tradition," the guys formerly known as "Situation Unknown" were introduced to the current drummer of The Exposures, Eric. His drumming skills were excellent, and he was easily accepted by the rest of the guys as the fourth member of the band. With the addition of Eric came the disagreement of the band's official name. Breaking Tradition grew old and a change was needed. Because of the band's inspiration of Weezer, they named themselves The Skiv. That name stuck for a little while but eventually got old. So once again, the band's name was changed to The Exposures. The Exposures first gig was on February 16, 2002. It was Miguel's first and last gig with The Exposures. Matt and Miguel began to develop problems with each other which led to Miguel leaving the band. The Exposures were shocked with the sudden leave of Miguel but decided to keep the band going. Joel Dyar was a friend of the band who had heard there was a space to be filled. Joel was tried out and had been excepted the same day. Thats pretty much where we're up to right now, so I will keep you posted on whats happening with The Exposures!

Kirk Deist--He is 18 years old and is the oldest member of the band. He has the most band experience out of any of the members. He has brought much of that talent to The Exposures, where the other members have learned a lot. He graduated from Gettysburg High School in 2001. His goal in life is to make money through playing in a band, hopefully that band is The Exposures!

Matt--He is 15 years old and is a freshman at Gettysburg High School. Matt has picked up a lot of stuff on guitar. Stuff that takes people years to learn. His skill level is so high. He has already written originals. The band sees Matt as really being successful someday. He has really had a major influence on what the band does and does not play. His favorite band is Weezer and that is the clincher in what songs we play.

Eric --He is 15 years old and attends Gettysburg High School. Eric is a very talented drummer who knows a lot, and is still learning. His hardcoreness never ceases to amaze the band. He can learn songs like theres no tomorrow. This shows how much Eric is dedicated to The Exposures. Kirk and Matt think his Mom is the best, too. They are so glad that Eric is a member of The Exposures.

Joel--He is 16 years old and also attends Gettysburg High School. Joel has played bass for quite a while and it shows. Joel brings a great amount of talent with him to band practice. All are amazed at Joel's playing ability on the bass. Joel plays bass guitar with a passion.

This is only the beginning to the history of The Skiv. The band hopes that they will be able to add much more to this page as the years pass. The Skiv is always looking for places to play, so if you need someone give The Skiv a call....Later!!!!
