School Excerpt from nomination
St Joseph's Educational Institute,
Chandor
Frederick Menezes, Technical writer, Pune.

"St Joseph's, Chandor has been imparting computer education to its students for quite some years now. In spite of space crunch problems and financial constraints, the school has been able to set up the basic infrastructure for computer-educating the students. Being a village, it's comparatively tougher to raise funds for such projects. The Chandor school caters to students coming from the middle to low end of the economic spectrum. The schools has also had several fund raising programmes to finance computer education in the school."

Lourdes Convent High School,
Saligao
Rose Marie Dias
Member of the Parents Teachers Association of Lourdes Convent High School, Saligao.

"Lourdes Convent High School is basically a village school and computers have been introduced in the school about 3 years ago. Initially, the students were given an option between computers and craft. Those opting for computers were asked to pay a monthly fee of Rs.50/-. There were just a few students who opted for computers as the others could not afford this fee.

Realising that students need to have computer knowledge, the headmistress of the school has reduced the fees and has made it compulsory for all students from Std. V. Those children who cannot afford evcn the reduced fees, are not deprived of the opportunity to learn computers. Some arrangement has been worked out for them.

In order that the students should not be deprived of Computer Time, the school has a separate computer for administrative work. I also wish to make a mention that besides imparting computer knowledge to the students, the school has also made an effort to educate the village people in this field. During vacations classes are conducted for the public at reasonable rates.

I feel this school deserves a lot of credit for the involvement in computer education and hence this nomination."
