The Sacraments

The sacraments are special. Jesus gave them to us. In total, there are seven of them.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

In holy communion, we recieve Jesus in a special way. Tthe bread becomes the body of Christ and the wine, his blood. We share in the life of Christ, in the Eucharist; this means, we can live like Christ, every day. Holy communion is about many things: belonging, celebrating, listening and caring. Making peace, giving thanks, sharing and making a better world. Basically, being children of God!

CONFESSION (RECONSILLIATION)

Many people get extreamly worried, before they go to confession. But what has to be remembered, is that it is a sacrament, to celebrate all the times we forgive each other and all the times God forgives us. The priest is standing in for God and no one will ever no what you told him, because it is between you and God. The priest will never tell your parents, you can tell the priest anything. We can also be helped for the future. God gives us hope and strength.

BEFORE- Think about the things you have done recently.

DURING- Tell the priest what you have been thinking about and listen to what he says.

AFTER- Do your pennance and pray for the priest. Jesus gave us the gift and we should be grateful. It saves us from mortal sins and allows our entry to heaven.

If you still will uncomfortable about confession, you can attend a penitential service. This gives a chance for confession, one to one with a priest, but not in the box.

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is a big step in our life, Where we recieve the Holy Spirit. There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are: wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, awe and wonder and reverence. They help us to judge like God and know what to do in difficult situations. Understand what God tells us and appreciate his greatness. They are all symbols of God's love for us. The Bishop confirms you and the service has four parts to it.

1- The laying of hands.

2- The annointing, with the oil of chrism.

3- The signing with the cross.

4- The words "be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit."
