Girls With Grandmother Faces
Spring Fling ~ 2004
latest saga in the "Where in the World are the GWGF" series
(Playing ~ "That's What Friends Are For")

May 3-7 ~ Dillard, Georgia ... Helen's Cottage
May 17-21 ~ Seven Devils, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina ... Tie One On (a reprise visit)

From "dilly-dallying in Dillard" to "the hills are alive"
eighteen of us enjoyed Spring Fling at one place or the other this year ... and two made it to both places!

Here I am, almost a year late working on the Spring Fling 2004 page, so I will not go into
very much detail. At the time, my picture problem held me up so that I could not/did not work on
this page. The color studio that at one time made a suitable floppy disc from my own pix will no longer
do that. I used that format successfully for many years. Now I have a new digital camera for
future use so ....... problem solved! The pix I am using here are compliments of Ann, Mattie and Marian.

We had 14 GWGF who came back to our special log house at Seven Devils!
(Since it only accommodates 12, we had to hide 2 when
maintenance came around .... LOL!)

At Dillard .........

I was not there .... I received no report afterwards from anyone who attended .... BUT I do know
that they had a great time in Dillard and surrounding places of interest and just "hanging loose."

I did see a tentative list of possibilities beforehand; I will not comment on those as I do not
know how their activities played out. They were able with their small group to be more flexible and
"play it by ear." Most of those in attendance were not able to attend a Spring Fling later in May.

At Seven Devils .........

I was there! For many of us, it was like "coming home" since we had been there in 2000.
The 3-story log house, Tie One On, is great for our large crowd. We had a theme for the week
which became very meaningful to all of us ...... "That's What Friends Are For."
We played the music several times during the week and everyone was given a CD of the music.

As usual, the main meal of the day was at noon when we went down the mountain to the Blowing Rock area.
We always enjoy shopping there and lunching at the many delightful cafes. As before, we also
traveled to Valle Crucis to the Mast General Store which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The nightly devotionals were very special this year
.... all centered on friendships and tending a "friendship garden."
Monday ~ Shirley, "A Time for Beginnings"
Tuesday ~ Charlotte, "Friendship in Bloom"
Wednesday ~ Olive Belle, "Friendship Savored"
Thursday ~ Mattie, "Friendship Harvested"

It was a special week .... one of our best!

That's What Friends Are For

And I never thought I'd feel this way,
And as far as I'm concerned,
I'm glad I got a chance to say,
That I do believe I love you!

And if I should ever go away,
Well then close your eyes and try,
to feel the way we do today!
And then if you can remember . . .

Keep smiling!
Keep shining!
Knowing you can always count on me,
For sure!
And that's what friends are for!

For good times!
And bad times!
I'll be on your side forever more!
That's what friends are for!

And so, by the way, I thank you and then,
For the times when we're apart,
Well then close your eyes and know,
These words are comin' from my heart!
And then if you can remember . . .

Keep smiling!
Keep shining!
Knowing you can always count on me,
For sure!
And that's what friends are for!

In good times!
And bad times!
I'll be on your side forever more!
That's what friends are for!

~ Lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager
Music by Burt Bacharach
