"WHAT IT'S LIKE"
by Rachel Fayans

This must be the bottom.

You do not move your eyes
For fear of seeing an unbearable beauty
And watch it become banal.

You seal your ears
So no words nor music
Can penetrate your decomposing soul
And hurt further

You avoid mirrors:
Depression distorts your perception
Of the self, it can be so scary.

You sleep in order to transport
Your thoughts to the land
Of no responsibility

You numb your heart
So loves doesn’t loose
The flavor that may return someday.

And you write because no medicine
Can exorcise this hell.
