Paris, France |
| Yes, we did actually
go to Paris to celebrate our 20th Anniversary! We had been planning to
do this for some time. We felt blessed to be able to celebrate in
such a magnificent place.
So let's get started on our trip to Paris! |

We arrived in Paris, caught the Airport Bus to the Arc de Triumph, dropped off our
luggage at the Hotel and with Rick Steve's Guidebook in one hand and a map in the other,
it was off to the Eiffel Tower. The line was incredibly long so we decided to come
back later in the week. Since we were there, we decided to get something to eat at the snack stand underneath. French Fries, of course! And believe it or not . . . that is exactly what they were called on the menu!! |

| Now here is our advice for your trip to Paris. Get guidebook (Rick Steve's). Check it out from your library - always the right price! And be prepared to take the subway. | ![]() |

We were so excited to be in the "City of Light", so we attempted to see everything the first night and day. We affectionately refer to our excitement as leading to our "Death March Through Paris". I do not think Napoleon's troops retreating from Russia walked as far as we did. So . . . our advice, pace yourself! It is a beautiful city and remember . . . it has been there for hundreds of years. It will be there tomorrow! The next day we woke up and started a slower walking tour and discovered one block from our hotel a little flower shop called "Le nom de Rosa" (The Name of the Rose) specializing in roses (big surprise) and everyday there would be another amazing arrangement. . |

Monet's House and Gardens |
|||
![]() Speaking of flowers we spent an afternoon at Monet's Home and Garden. The tour starts with his home. It is a modest home. But the use of color is fabulous. Claude Monet had an extensive collection of Japanese prints. You can see how these would have inspired him to move toward Impressionism. The garden surrounds the home and
studio. it runs all the way to the road below. You cross under the road
through a tunnel and enter the Water Lilly Pond. Wow! The garden has been
restored to depict the vision of the artist. You can see clearly how the paintings
were inspired by the surroundings. Richard was patient as Lynda took in the sights and
rambled on about the artist |

Versailles |
|||
|
|
Richard standing in the Marble Courtyard at the Palace of Versailles. We took an all day tour of the palace and grounds. The tour included a fabulous lunch at a restaurant in the garden. As we have traveled around Europe we have found that many kings tried to copy Versailles. Here is a quiz to see if you can figure out which castle is the original.
