Napoli lies in the shadow of Vesuvius.

There are views of this volcano from all over the Naples area.  Most people have seen this famous view of the the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the background

There is so much on the historical sites of Naples on the web and in guide books we are not going into everything here.

We have spent about 3 years here.  It has been an exciting place to live.

The Solfatara, the mythical entrance to the Ancient Romans' Hell, is an inactive volcano, part of the volcanic region knows as the Phlegrean Fields.

This is the epicenter of the cyclic phenomenon of the rising and lowering of the ground level known as bradisism.

The only eruption of this semiextinct volcano was in 1198.

This was one of the "must sees" of the Grand Tour in the 18th century.

A 15 minute walk from the Solfatara is the Anfiteatro Flavio also known as the Pozzuoli Amphitheater.

Despite the wear and tear of the ages and the loss of some of the masonry to lime making in the Middle Ages, the site is one of the marvels of  Roman architecture in this area.

Franco and Sylvia offer an Italian  cooking class in their home for Americans and other NATO personnel.  Only 20 can attend as that is all the more chairs they have.

It is a great way to see what to buy at the Italian supermarket and how to prepare it in your home.

While in Italy we both turned 40.  Lynda's family got together and filmed a video.  We think it was hard on her parents to admit they had a daughter who was 40.  Everyone had plenty to say about the event.  They put together a party in a box and shipped it all to us.  It was a lot of fun to open.
As you can see, Richard was quite thrilled when it was his turn 10 days after Lynda.

We tried to surprise Richard with a party but he surprised us by going to the gym to work out.

Fortunately he had enough breath left to blow out all the candles!

We both had to listen to much harassment from friends and family.  I think we survived it.

I think we would both agree that 40 is really not all that bad!

Easter eggs are a very big thing in Italy.  This one is dark chocolate and covered with whole hazelnuts.

Find out what is inside the egg by clicking on the link below.

As we prepare to leave Naples, Richard was "Farewelled" by the CREDO staff.

Check out some of the photos from this event.

Find out more about this great little town near Naples.

There are plenty more pictures to post here.

Keep checking back as we update the photos from Naples!
