A Little Pig Goes a Long Way

A long time ago in a land far, far away there was a  movie named "Babe."

A little cafe offered Babe toys with their meals for children.

This is the journey of one pig who has traveled a very long way!

If you have a globe or map you might want to see if you and your children can find the places that Babe has visited.

    Buenes Dias

Babe visited "Pedro's South of the Border" in Hickory, SC.  It was a rainy day.  Babe posed in the mouth of the gator so he would not get his new serape wet.

There are many things to do here, as well as get gas for the car and food for the belly.

Babe has been to San Francisco a couple of times.  One of his favorite stops is the chocolate factory.  He once bought Lynda a small wooden street car filled with dark chocolate candy bars. He was very popular when he got home.

There once was a pig with a crooked tail,

who took a walk on a crooked trail.

He ate a Rice-a-roni treat,

On this San Francisco street.

And that is the end of this tale!

Babe also enjoyed a game while in San Francisco.  He is a sports fan.  However, he does avoid football.  The whole "pigskin" thing is too much for him.

Babe has enjoyed a couple of trips across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  His favorite way to view it is from the deck of the USS Tarawa as it passes underneath.

For some other views of the bridge, click here.

Babe went to a New Years Eve party wearing his new party hat.  Sebastian and Cisco Schnittker were very impressed and wanted to get a closer look.  Babe also enjoyed watching the fireworks over Naples, Italy that night.  What an amazing display.  It was a wonderful way to welcome in 2003!

Babe visited the Paris Opera House.  He loved the beautiful building and the lovely music people played there.  How do like the beret?

Paris, France, June 2001

Babe at the Colosseum, Rome, Italy.  He liked pretending to be the Emperor as he looked out over the arena.

On a trip to Garmisch, Germany, Babe was excited to see a fellow pig on the streets.  He was quite shocked to find out what the sign said.  The nearby shop was selling sausage! How could this be?

Fortunately, a dog ran down the street at this moment pulling a small boy behind him.  By the time the dog was under control, Babe had forgotten what he was upset about.   The group quickly moved on.  Whew, Richard and Lynda will have to be careful in the future!

Babe at Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy.  He threw a coin in this fountain.  He wants to come back here soon.  They have great ice cream nearby!

Babe at the beach in Gaeta, Italy

This lovely city sits right on the water.  It has a mountain that is said to have split in the earthquake on the day of Christ's crucifixion.

There are over 270 steps down into the grotto that was formed.   This was used as a pirate hideout at one time.   Arrgh.  Babe enjoyed playing pirates while he was there.  But he forgot his eye patch.

Babe is enjoying the view of the Rhinefall in Schaffhausen on the Rhine River. To warm up a bit he had a cappuccino at a nearby cafe.

Ancient Roman sites are found all over Europe.  This Roman bath house is no where near Rome.  It is in Bath, England.  The Romans came to England in 43 AD.

The springs have been in continuous use since the Roman times.

Babe refused to take a bath here because he did not have his bath gel and rubber ducky.

How about this view of the Eiffel Tower from the Arch de Triumph?  He was glad it was not too windy

When Babe visited Paris, France, he saw all the sights!   The bridges were his favorite.  He really enjoyed eating escargot at a sidewalk cafe.

Here is Babe in the marble courtyard of the palace at Versailles, France.  Ooh La La what a lovely beret!

While here Babe toured the castle and the grounds.  He even had a nice lunch in the middle of the garden.

Babe in London, England

Big Ben and the Sherlock Holmes museum.   It just does not get any better than that!

See what is happening there on the Big Ben Webcam.

Babe loved Buckingham Palace.  Although he missed tea with the queen.   His favorite part was the changing of the guard.  He marched along with one of the soldiers.

  Babe at Souda Bay, Greece

He thought this was a lovely place to visit.  The food was good and once again he got to be near the water with his friends.

Babe escaped the rains of the Northwest when he went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

While he was there he painted a Red Cross clinic.

Babe also enjoyed a trip to Twin Falls, Idaho.

This trip he shared with a little girl who would only listen to Winnie the Pooh songs.

However, he was confused.  There is only one fall at Twin Falls.  Why aren't there two?

Babe checked into the Hotel California in Baja California, Mexico.

Fortunately he was able to check out!

He had a lot of places to visit.

Babe on the beach in Bali, Indonesia.  Richard is cute but were talking about Babe.

He was traveling with Richard.  Since Babe is afraid of the waves, Richard had to put him on his shoulder.

Richard and Babe were driving around England and made a stop at the Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, England.

They had to look at the books in the library and explore the grounds of the school.

Babe also enjoyed visiting the European Nazarene Bible College on  the border of Germany at Büsingen, Switzerland.  The college has now changed its name to European Nazarene College.

He had lunch with the students and enjoyed checking out the area with friends.

Babe had an opportunity to visit Darwin, Australia.

He loved riding in this blue car on his way to the beach.

Here is Babe once again with Richard.  Now they are in Jebal Ali

Richard had to hold Babe so he would not be trampled on the busy street.

I wonder if they bought anything for Lynda at this store?

This Neuschwanstein Castle is located in Bavaria, Germany.  You can tell this by the hat that Babe is wearing.  He attempts to dress appropriately for the location.

He took a carriage ride up the hill.  He wanted to save his energy for the tour and eating a big soft pretzel with cheese!

Where do you think Babe is?  No, he is not in France.  He is in England.  France and England both have an island with a castle on it.  Both are accessible by foot and car during low tide.  When he visited St Michael's Mount in  England there were small shuttle boats to take him to the island.   Both islands have mounts named for St. Michael.

Babe enjoys watching a show from the BBC called The Vicar of Dibley.  Richard took Babe to visit the village in England.

This village was also used in the movie Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang.  The windmill is still on the hill overlooking the town.

The actual name of the village is Turville.

Babe had a great time at Notre Dame in Paris. He climbed the stairs to the bell tower and looked out over the city.

He thought the stained glass windows were beautiful from inside with the sunlight shining through.

He also enjoyed crepes and an espresso at cafe across the street.

Babe visited Oberammergau, Germany, during the campaign for mayor (burgermeister).   This was also during their Ash Wednesday (Faushing) celebration.

The locals took the names of the various candidates and combined them into one long  name.

Babe was very excited when he saw the picture of a pig all over town.

Babe took a few minutes to stop and enjoy the view from the window of Claude Monet's home in Giverny, France.  He thinks he would like to have this view from his home.  Richard is not sure his thumb is that green.

Here we have a picture of Babe entering Germany from Austria.  This was before he found out he had been driving illegally through Austria.  You must buy a road tax sticker for your car when you enter Austria.  Since the signs are all in a foreign language he missed those instructions.   He was not stopped, so he did not have to pay a fine.
Babe put on  his beret and toured the streets of Paris.  After being in Naples, this experience did not frighten him as much as it should.  He decided to pose on a traffic signal in the middle of the street.  He was thrilled by the view of the cars rushing by.  What a brave little pig.  Kids, do not try this at home!
"London Bridge is falling down. . ."  But this is a view of the Tower Bridge in London, England.  It is not the London Bridge.  You have to go to Arizona to see that one.   Babe had a hard time figuring that out.  To find out more about this confusing situation go to the website.

As Babe travels the world he will post more pictures here.  Be sure to check back on his adventures.
