Three Ways to get Links
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
Dr. Ralph Wilson, who also runs an internet marketing site (Web Marketing Today) and a Christian site (www.jesuswalk.com), this week detailed three ways to get non-reciprocal links to your sites.

1. Create Depth and Content
He suggests adding about 1 page per week, and that he currently has around 500 pages.

2. Find Sites that Allow "Add URL"
On Google or Yahoo or your favorite search engine, type in "Add URL" +"keyword." You can also try "Suggest URL" or "Suggest Link" or other similar phrases plus your keyword. Make sure you put quotes around "Add URL" and a plus sign in front of your keyword-in-quotes. This forces the search engine to identify those particular phrases and ensures that they are in your search results. Try to target the sites that don't ask for a reciprocal link.

3. The "Give-Away" Article
Create an article with a good title, description meta tag, headings, body text, hyperlinked keywords, and links to your site and send it to your subscribers. Tell your subscribers that they are free put a copy of the article on their own site, which will result in scores of links to your site.

Love Bites!
Mood:  don't ask
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
True 'nough, but SecurityProNews reports that if you receive an email from Anna, Ellen, or Alice telling you that she loves you and has a password to "open her heart", BEWARE BEWARE. The Zip file she sends is actually a worm.

"Win32.Bagle.fy" is the latest in the Bagle family of worms to infiltrate computers in the US, Europe and South Asia. Once it finds a way into your computer, it starts downloading more malicious stuff and signs your beloved computer into the League of Zombie Computers, sending spam and other not-so-nice things around the globe.

So if you want a little love, don't open that email. Instead, why not try getting a little snuggle from a puppy or a baby. Now THERE's love for ya'.

Tell A Friend
Mood:  happy
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
I recently discovered an innovative and exciting new marketing tool, "Tell a Friend." It's still in the experiemental stages, but it holds so much promise that I thought I would ask my readers to help me implement it.

Here's how "Tell a Friend" works:

1) Go to my other website, Unrapped Ministries.

2) Navigate to a page on the site that interests you.

3) Click on the "Click to Recommend this page to a friend" button at the bottom of the page.

4) Put your and your friend's information in the boxes and, in the message body below the URL, ask your friend to tell one of their friends about the site as well.

After a few weeks, I'll post a report on this blog, indicating how "Tell a Friend" impacted traffic and/or sales (this Christian website has a Gospel Store - proceeds benefit global missions). For those who assist me in this, leave me a comment and I'll also give your blog an additional plug, since it started with you. No spamming please. Spamming is illegal and unethical. Just tell people you know or are acquainted with.

Mood:  energetic
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
Welcome to our newest blog renter, Pics of the Week! xKhAnH, from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, has a different series of pictures around a particular theme each week. The photography is splendid. I especially like this weeks, which deals with tuning guitars. It includes pictures of several different types of bass and electric guitars. My personal favorite is the last one, shaped like the continent of Africa. So go ahead and check him out an the right! You'll be glad you did! My Favorites
Mood:  mischievious
Topic: Make Money with Your Blog
My mom today asked me what I wanted for my birthday, so I decided to put up some banners.

These are some banners for my favorite stores:

The hotter the better!

They also have a nice men's apparel section.

These are some examples of the many many offerings at ShareASale. Most offer pretty decent percentages on your delivery of customers to them.

Sites with a theme work best to make money with your blog. What I've found works well is having a page on the blog (other than the main page) with product links related to your blog's theme, broken up by category.

I haven't had a lot of luck with banners, probably because most people don't want to have to hunt for an item that appeals to them, unless they're in a holiday shopping mode.

The only problem I've experienced with the merchants who participate in ShareASale is the few that occasionally go "Temporarily Offline" or have "Low Funds." Make sure that you don't post any of those links.

Just when you thought you were safe...
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
If it wasn't bad enough that Google might be spying on you to deliver "appropriate" ads, New Scientist reports that the NSA is researching the harvesting of information that people post about themselves on sites like Myspace and Friendster.

They also may combine that data with other information such as "banking, retail and property records, allowing the NSA to build extensive, all-embracing personal profiles of individuals." And if the US government has this technology, then other governments probably do as well.

So, bottom line is to be discreet about what you post online. Don't give out personal information like phone numbers, addresses, etc. Be very wary about what you include in your public profile.

Google and Privacy
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
Tech Crunch reports that Google Research has created a way to use your computers internal mic to "listen in" to what is being watched on TV and offer up context-based shopping and other services to determine what your browser should display.

As if it wasn't bad enough that I have to worry about Hotels.com losing my credit card info in an auditor's car! A McCarthy-style head of the FBI or NSA could really ruin a lot of lives using this type of technology!

How to get listed on DMOZ
Mood:  surprised
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
Surfing through BlogExplosion's excellent selection of websites today, I found an article in eBusiness Journal on DMOZ I would like to share with you.

If you've done much of anything with Search Engine Marketing (getting listed in the top search engines, so that customers seek you out, instead of vice-versa), you've undoubtedly heard of DMOZ. In some circles, getting listed on DMOZ is almost as important as, if not more than, getting listed on Google.

The writer of eBusiness Journal has a slightly different perspective. Back in April, he went to Digital Point Forums for advice, got pointed to the right category and eBusiness Journal was listed shortly thereafter.

Unfortunately, on DMOZ's next update less than a month later, his site was deleted. The author's bottom line: "DMOZ is really going down the drain and definitely not worth the hassle."

My advice: submit to niche directories. To find them: go to Google and type "directory" followed by the topic of your site, in quotes if it's more than one word. Then submit your site to several of them and watch your traffic counter soar!

What is Podcast Pickle?
Mood:  hug me
Topic: Create + Promote Blogs
PodcastPickle is an impressive service I have been using the past couple of months.

PodcastPickle has a great directory of podcasts, organized by genre, a chat room, ratings, favorites, a blog, IM's, and cast wars!

I have just acquired a couple of fans, myself. I IM'd one of them earlier today and just received a response! This is an active community and a great way to get your podcast publicized!

There are several free podcast services out there - my favorite is GarageBand.com, which I have embedded in this website and my other. Right-click the podcast box in the lower right and click "View Source" to see how I did that.

So go ahead and check out PodcastPickle, sign up, search for 14208, and add me to your favorites! I'll reciprocate and we can contribute to the growing PodcastPickle community!

Or, in other words,
