What they look like

HHHWolves can come in a variety of colors, such as white, black, red, and gray. They have oval eyes, pointed ears, and a long muzzle. Wolves have long, sharp teeth that are perfect for tearing apart their prey. There are five toes on each forepaw, and four on each hind paws. Wolves have long thin legs are strong and adapted for running over long distances. The males are usually ninety-five pounds, and females are eighty-five pounds. An average wolf(male or female), two and a half feet high and are five to 6 and a half feet long from the tip of nose to the ends of their tails. Cold region wolves are usually bigger and have longer and thicker fur than normal wolves.

Where They Live

HHHThey live in mountains, forests, and plains of the Northern Hemisphere. They have a special role in relation to their environment. This is called ecological niche(pronounced nik). Wolves are the most numerous of all the predators that hunt large mammals in this territory.

Interesting Facts

HHHIn North America, wolves are found mostly in Alaska and Montana(?). The reason there are few in other states is because wolves were hunted and killed. Why? Because people believed they were a threat to livestock. People were cutting down so many trees where the wolves lived, that their preys population was slowly whittling down. Soon, food was so scarce, that wolves began raiding peoples cattle and livestock. Humans began to set out off to kill them. Wolves were also killed because people thought they would eat humans. That is ridiculous as there is no record of a healty wolf eating a human. Wolves were killed by hunters because they believed that the wolves were getting rid of all their game.

HHHWolves are an important part of the food chain. If there were no more wolves, the population of deer and rabbits and the wolves other preys would get higher and higher, until almost no food were left for them all. Eventually, they would all die out from starvation. Then, what would other prey do if there were no more prey to eat? They would die out. You see, wolves are very important to our way of life, and let's make sure that what I just explained up there, never happens.
