WEEK 1 ASSESSMENT:
Students will demonstrate their knowledge through identifying and using poetic forms and blues vocabulary in class discussion and by writing a rough draft of a poem, blues or rap which will be developed throughout the unit to be read, published or performed at the poetry slam in week 4.
WEEKS 2 AND 3 ASSESSMENT:
Students will demonstrate their knowledge through identifying and analyzing dramatic forms and blues vocabulary in class discussion, by presenting independent research which will be developed throughout the unit and by writing an expository/ intrepretive essay to be completed in week 4.
WEEK 4 ASSESSMENT:
Students will demonstrate their knowledge by giving a group presentation of their research to the class, by performing a rap or reading a poem in the culminating experience of the poetry slam and by writing an expository essay interpreting The Piano Lesson in light of their group research, formal principles of poetry and drama, and their personal reflection from their journals.
