In The Beginning... There's Nothing/Time to Make Something Out of It

Narrator: The Beginning. Isn’t this where everyone starts at? According to the Bible, God took the emptiness know as space and throughout the course of seven days, he made the Earth. In the beginning there were only 13 colonies, struggling to become something different on a greater piece of land. These colonies stood through the test of time and eventually became ONE nation. Originally, everybody is conceived and then in a matter of forty weeks, a child is born. Getting ready to begin exploring the new world and start life with their very own chapter in history. Everything and everyone is entitled to a beginning.

This whole week will mark the beginning of one of the new faces of the Universal Wrestling Federation…, “The Show” Tyrone Kidd. He is a 28 year old Tampa resident by way of Harlem, New York. Brought out of retirement six months ago, there is still a sense of emptiness that he feels isn’t quite done with it. A legacy that he thinks hasn’t even really started in his mind. Now in Tyrone Kidd’s memory bank, he has done a lot of memorable things. Won titles, defeated a bunch of people, being deemed the fastest rising superstar known in two federations. All of that was nice but in the end that is just small change in the much bigger picture. Everybody’s beginning venture off in different directions some are bad, others are good. But in the end, each one has the same idea about what they want out of life. They want to be the best that they can possibly be.

In Tyrone Kidd’s case, the best to him is stamping his name onto the books of history. Now it is obvious that all the wrestlers have the same major goal to become the World/Universal/Undisputed Champion. His problem with that is that even though Kidd has been given a couple shots at being the top guy in the business, at the end of the day he just ended up coming up a little bit short. But that is not the only thing he wants to accomplish. Anybody can become a World Champion once yet it doesn’t mean anything if you cannot make an impact with your title reign. Legends are made by what they can do throughout the course of time. If you can leave an everlasting impression with or without the title in a federation then it is considered a job well done.

Ladies and gentlemen… this is Kidd’s road to that impression. For the first time in UWF,… LET THE SHOW BEGIN…

Scene 1 ::Tuesday Night::

The scene opens up in one of the suite rooms at the Hilton Knoxville hotel, just blocks away from the Tennessee Theatre. The first thing that’s noticeable when walking into the luxury parlor suite is the 40 inch flat screen television sitting upon a large oak dresser with eight shiny gold knobs. Next to the TV is a standing contemporary style lamp. On the far wall of the suite are two large windows overlooking a large, manmade lake and tall trees, outlined with gold and green pleated floor length curtains. In the center of the room are two green and white stripped ottoman chairs and a third similar chair in a dark mauve color with white leaves spread out gently all over. Across from the television screen is a large double wide mauve love seat with large striped pillows nestled in the corners. In the center of all these wonderful looking furniture is a small oval shaped glass covered oak table. To the right of the parlor is the door to the bedroom, partially opened door with the sound a voice heard faintly through the crack.

Inside the bedroom, resting on the far edge of the 250-thread-count sheets is Tyrone Kidd. Wearing a pair of black denim jean with a tanktop and his Gucci shades still on, his back is towards the door looking out the window with what seems to be the hotel’s house phone in his hand. Though it is hard to get a clear look on his face, the fact that his hand looks like it’s glued to the top of his head makes it seems like he is not in the best of mood at the moment. Making a sound debut tonight in Knoxville, it’s time to get to back to business. And there is no other person that will put that sense of reality into a person… than their significant other. In this case, his other is his fiancé Starr, who is on the other line.

Kidd: You know, starting a new isn’t like how it used to be. When I first started out, I was just happy to be signed. I got to meet new people, learn from the better players, and evolved as a wrestler and as a man. Now I feel more like I need to solidify a spot first and become a contender. I mean it’s all about the main prize. I’ve been so close to it and yet I can’t get a firm grip onto it yet…

Starr: You could have just stay at McW? You chose to move on and venture something else. I don’t understand why you trying so hard to become something else. You’re a good father, a successful boss, and a wondeful man…

She rolls her eyes as soon as she finishes that line.

Starr: … sometimes.

They both share a laugh at her little sarcastic wit. Tyrone couldn’t really get too upset on the phone. That’s part of the reason why he proposed to her. But she goes back to the topic at hand and the million dollar question…

Starr: So why are you so stuck on being a top superstar as well? I don’t understand you. You risked the status that you worked so hard enough to make… and for what? To end up going to this new place as a nobody? I don’t understand why?

Of course she doesn’t. Throughout the 5 ½ - 6 years, she has been in his corner, inside and out of the ring but she never really been in the ring. She doesn’t know how it feels to have the rush of thousands of fans’ energy, good or bad, flow through you on a weekly basis while you do what comes naturally to you. She doesn’t know the feeling of being one of the big dogs on campus and KNOW that it’s not cause what you were… but what you are and what you going to become. He could open his mouth and say all of that… but he knows he would just be wasting his time. Starr is a very thick-headed individual and the majority of the time, when she is fixed on something, she doesn’t let go… that’s why he proposed to her. So all he does is shakes his head, phone in hand.

Kidd: You wouldn’t understand.

Starr: You know sometimes you confuse me.

Kidd: Yeah I have the tendency of doing that.

Starr: So what will the great almighty Tyrone Kidd have to deal with on his debut match up?

Can’t you tell these two are made for each other?

Kidd: Well right before I left, I was given this piece of paper with all the matches for this week’s show. I haven’t look at it yet though. I figured that I have some time.

Starr: Well now sounds like a good time to find out isn’t it?

Kidd: *sigh* I guess.

Kidd drops the phone and takes a look around to find the piece of paper that had the matches on it. After a couple of seconds he remembers where he put it and bends down to grab his suitcase. Once he gets his hand on it, in one motion he pulls the suitcase over and flings it on the bed. He unzips it and right on the top of his clothes… is the paper. Reluctantly he picks up the paper and reads over the card before picking up the phone.

Kidd: Looks like I’m caught in the middle of a triple threat match up. One of them I think is the Hardcore Champion. The other I don’t know who he is yet… get I got some work to go do.

Starr: Yeah it looks like you do.

There is a long break of silence between the two.

Starr: Look… I am not saying that you’re not going to be successful in this fed, I’m just saying that I wish you would stop having the need to always do one better.

Kidd: Baby I understand. But I gotta go. I got some scouting to do…

They say their good-byes and Kidd hangs up the phone. He still has the same stressed out look that he had in the beginning but none the less, he goes into his suitcase and pulls out his laptop so he can start scouting.

Scene 2 :: Sunday Afternoon ::

The scene opens up in Kidd’s office at the Five Star Talent Agency. It’s a sunny say in Los Angeles but the room is… without its owner. The Show has been going out of his way to make his company bigger. This time… he took a couple days out of the week to fly off to the Cannes Film Festival in France, trying to find and sign more clients. Having a successful week, Kidd headed home Saturday night and is making a rare occasion by being in the building today. In a matter of seconds, the doors fly open and in enter Kidd, with his newly darker tan, wearing a black-striped suit and clip-on tie. Walking right beside him, with some paper and folders in her hand, is another woman. Looking like she is in her late 20’s/early 30’s, her brunette colored hair is coiled up in pretty little curls with blond highlights. Standing out by her beautiful pair of green eyes, she is wearing a white short-sleeve top with a black knee length skirt and black boots that has six inch heels on the bottoms to complete the outfit. As they walk side by side, they continue their conversation…

Woman: So tell me more about this guy that you’re looking to sign… what is his name again?

They separate as Tyrone heads to his desk and sits on his leather swivel chair and the lady, who has a name tag that states who she is… Terri Strauss, takes a seat on the other side of the desk. Kidd raises his feet up and gets himself accustom to have a chat with his executive assistant.

Kidd: … Michael Alston, Terri. He is from London area and boy does this kid bring talent to the big screen. Now he only has a support part in this movie I saw up in good old Paris, but for a 20 years old actor, he definitely has what it takes to make it big over here in the states. He just needs a good push that’s all.

Terri: And you’re sure we can give him that push?

Kidd: Sure enough to get him to put his name on the dotted line. It’s about to be a brand new chapter here in Five Stars and one of my goals is to make this guy into somebody.

Terri: Well that better not be your only goal, D.J. Cause you know you still have that big debut this Tuesday coming up.

Kidd: Yeah that’s why I’m here today. After I got done finishing signing this small stuff and legal paper I was gonna take time to let the people in Universal Federation know what is running though my head…

After finishing his sentence, Kidd finally realized what she said to him and looks at her with this weird look.

… Oh and Strauss.

Terri: Yes.

Kidd: You’re lucky you are one hell of a worker cause you know I don’t like people calling me by my government name.

Terri: (smiling) I know. That’s why I do it. Cause I know you’d be absolutely lost without me. So what do you have planned for these two guys?

Kidd: Well interestingly enough, I got a decent little match on my hands. I mean at first it was suppose to be a dark match but I guess the people have seen some kind of potential and a kicked it up a notch. So now that it’s me versus fellow newcomer and potentially dark little guy name OutKast versus Divine Congregation member and current Hardcore Champion, Joseph Setala. But as for what I have planned? Guess you have to stick around cause my meeting with the UWF camera crew should be coming up pretty soon.

As soon as he utters those words, Terri’s phone at her desk outside the room starts to ring. She pushes herself up from the chair and heads outsides to go answer the phone. After a minute of small conversation, she hangs up and opens the door.

Terri: That was the security downstairs. They were just letting you know that the camera crew is on their way up here.

Kidd: Excellent. When they get here just tell them to set up their equipment.

Terri nods as she closes the door and sits at her desk, patiently waiting for the elevator to open as the scene cuts out.

Scene 3 :: 15 Minutes Later ::

At first there is just a black screen, with no sight or sound of anything. After a few seconds, a set of words fade into the screen one line at a time.

“To the locker room and management I am a new face to the federation…
But I am so much more…
I am the face of a franchise…
A face of a whole generation…
And in the triple threat match on Adrenaline, …
This face will belong to the man that will have his hand raised as the victor… ”

Once the last of the words fade out of the screen, it is replace with The Show looking out of the window of his building. The sun is starting to set over Los Angeles as Kidd is looking aimlessly over his surroundings. Now with his jacket off, he now has an oxford white shirt with black suspenders attached to the top of his pants. Following his brief gaze at the city, he turns around looks directly into the camera.

Kidd: You know the sunset is such a beautiful thing. Amidst of the constant change of the world one of the little thing that can be undeniably said is that the sun rises and the sun sets. It’s the beginning and the end. Much like this Tuesday, it will be the beginning and the end but maybe not the way some people will predict. The Show is stepping into the ring and what better way can it be… than a hardcore match. Now the first thing both of you should be away of is that just cause I have the good life, all these thing I don’t hesitate to brag and boast about, do not think for one second that I don’t know how to be hardcore. I was born as raised in the streets of Harlem, NY and even though that might not been much to any of you two… it means a lot more to me.

He starts to unbutton his shirt as he walks to the edge of his desk and sits on it, eyes never leaving the camera lens.

Am I a child of the streets? Yes. I will proudly admit to being that whole heartedly. But am I your typical chain wearing, crack dealing, gun toting thug who is down to forever stays on the streets that made him? No. Am I your “Resident Crazy Bastard” that running around stirring up mishaps by throwing eggs at interviewers and riding golf carts in order to get a pop of the fans? No. Am I this short little mishap who looks honestly like The Shoe Bomber and wears an eye patch over one of his eyes? Hell no. What I am is a guy that was dealt a bunch of lemons and ended up making million selling his own brand of lemonade. No if, and, or buts about it. I am an opportunist in the making and I am willing to do whatever is necessary to take out the competition. I am the guy with the skills to back up his big mouth and that will be seen in the ring.

He finishes unbuttoning his shirt and takes it off before laying it his chair. Kidd, now in his tank top, goes under the desk and opens his small fridge that he carefully hid and pulls out a bottle of water. He opens it, takes a quick gulp and takes a seat on his chair.

But at this moment in time, I want officially speak out to my opponents. First off there is OutKast. Or should I announce him as… the Hand of God…

Kidd gives this sort of blank look at the screen. Almost as if he has nothing to say. Haha. Unfortunately that is far from the case.

… Really?! Let’s be honest kiddo. I am one arrogant mother effer. But I have never even though of calling myself the hand of God. That must mean that you are either very good and should not be taken lightly at all…

Kidd shakes his head to give an obvious ‘no’ answer.

Or what I actually think which is that I am just walking in against someone who likes to tout his own horn and at the end of the day… is all talk. And given by the way I figure you dress yourself… I have all the reason to assure that you will not be of any matter to me. No wait I don’t want to become overly cocky. Maybe you have something to show me. But as of this moment you are just another cloud in the sky. You come here make yourself known for a short time and then leave to never be seen again. Happy trailing! I am made for bigger things then setting off little people who think they are the “center of attention”. HA! That kinda makes me want to roll around laughing.

Which now brings me to my other opponent, who might I add, is something of an obstacle.

Tyrone looks into one of his shelves and pulls out a remote. With his opposite hand he pushes a button and down for the ceiling comes a projector screen. With a simple push of a button the DVD player turns on and Joseph Setala’s promo is on the screen in a still frame. Kidd smirks as he looks back at the camera.

Mr. Setala. Ahh you are an interesting young fella, huh? You’re a UWF veteran, a champion and you are part of an established entourage of people. But yet that’s where your accolades end, aren’t they. I mean let’s take a closer look at your achievements. I mean you have made a name for yourself. But really what kind of a name did you make. You have nineteen wins and one loss. Impressive.

Kidd looks at the camera, shrugging his shoulders, with a not so enthused look on his face.

However, this leads into the second part. What do you have to show for all your success? Hmmm… ONE Primetime reign and currently one title reign as the Hardcore Champion. That’s it? Hmm… that’s nice. I guess. But you still say that you have nothing really to say that you have carved a decent path yet. But I do know what you are known to me as… a lackey. And this brings us to the third part. You are part of the Divine Congregation, a dangerous entity that has made a big dent into the UWF core well most of them has. You have the Queen of Mean, Blair Kivisto, who I wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley… well not yet at least. She is also the top dog in the federation. She is the Universal Champion. Then you have Bucky Skyler. He is the Intercontinental Champion and a very formidable opponent. Andy Tits. The Primetime Champion and let’s be honest, as much as his name is fun to poke at… he has a whole collection of things that he has done and is pretty much a Hall of Famer. And then there’s you and your loved one… One of these things just doesn’t belong here. Well maybe two. Let’s watch the footage.

Kidd presses play right at the point where:

The Only Difference between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage” by Panic! At the Disco hits the speaker system in the mall. Out of nowhere pops Joseph Setala in a golf cart from out of nowhere. Running over chairs and table, Joseph speeds up in the direction of the interview area. Once he arrives at the area, he pulls a megaphone from inside the golf cart.

Kidd stops the tape right before Joe starts to speak with the microphone.

This is the face of your ‘Residential Crazy Bastard’? I feel like I’m in the ring with a five year old. For the hardcore match should I bring Tonka Toys and G.I. Joes to play with? I know one thing I will do Joey. I will show you one hell of a time this Tuesday. Cause in this hardcore match, you can forget that I am a debuting superstar. You should be worried about being in the ring with someone who has nothing to lose. If I win this week on Adrenaline I will be the one to give you your SECOND loss as well as the guy that beat the Hardcore Champion… in HIS rules. If I lose however, I just start back from the beginning. Either way you need to worry about one thing. When you’re in the ring after your music is playing and you’re waiting to look at you opponents. And then the lights dim… what it means is that your time is growing short. That time you have to make an impact just grew distantly short. So when you heart beats and the sweat starts to form and Evanescene starts to play. It won’t become your time anymore. No no sir. It will now become MY time.

Kidd lifts a shit eating grin from his face.

Kidd: And when that happens… You will undeniably know…

WHY I SAY…

WHAT I SAY…

WHEN I SAY…

...It’s SHOWTIME!!!

Terri opens the door as Kidd gives the signal to stop the footage. As the scene ends, The two associates continue to talk about their plans for his new client.
