You’re Technique is Getting Weak, Grasshopper / Fact or Fiction!

I need a vacation! With the constant stress of facing someone, who for once in my career is more of a rival than an enemy, I just need somewhere that I can just go to just cut loose. Somewhere where I can keep my mind focused on the big picture ahead, the UWF Intercontinental Title, and not the ultimatum that’s around it. So after walking around like a mindless zombie around my business for a couple days, my assistant and the future Mrs., both decided that I take a couple days off from work to make sure I’m in the right mainframe them had pretty much the same thing idea… Vegas. Promising to Starr that I wouldn’t go alone I decided to make a few phone calls and invited my boy Miles and my faithful sidekick, Michael Alston to take the journey with me.

So here we are inside a white stretch limo, in the afternoon, about ten minutes away from the center city that is known to the world as ‘The City of Sin’, Las Vegas. Sharing a bottle of Gray Goose Vodka and doing what we do best...

“What the hell was with Megan Fox and damn movie?!”

“You mean Jennifer’s Body?”

“Yeah it was horrible.”

“I concur.”

“There was so many different faults with that film that I do not even think of where to start. There’s the lingo…”

“The concept…”

“The fact that it was a scary movie that wasn’t even scary…”

“The fact that it was made by the same people who did Juno…”

“It was just abysmal.”

“I just feel bad for anyone who actually wasted their time to actually watch that horrible movie…”

While they were heavy in conversation, I kind of sat back and let them talk. Unfortunately, I think they were getting the hint and they both looked at me with weary eyes.

“Tyrone…”

“What?”

“You’re not saying anything about this…”

“So…”

“We’ll come on something like this I figured you’d be the first one to bad mouth this movie in a second.”

“…”

“Unless…”

Shit.

“No!”

“You didn’t go see that movie, did you?”

And there I stood temporarily speechless.

“Look it was a rough day and it just happen to be out the same day…”

That’s all I could get out before I was drowned out by the sound of loud laughter from both of my colleagues. I swear if I was one of pale skin, I probably would have been blushing. Thank god for my everlasting tan.

“Well looking at the movie reminded me of someone special in particular.”

Still laughing, they caught wind of what I just said and began to ponder. Then they start to shake their heads in agreement.

“Serena.”

“Yup it’s just another example of what has been proven time and time again. Just because you have a gorgeous body that looks better and better with less clothes that are on it, it doesn’t mean that you can use it to get by on everything.”

“Yup.”

“Preach!”

“Did you see what she said about you the other day?”

No I just sat back and slept the day away. *SIGH*

On second thought…

Maybe I should have when I was watching it. I probably needed some more sleep time.

“Yeah. You know while she spent the whole time torturing the people of UWF and myself, she definitely didn’t respond back to the story that I spent time to tell the fans with earlier in the week.”

After thinking about her promo, they both nod in agreement.

“See not everything that comes out of my mouth is bullshit…”

Just when that I finish that statement, the limo finally stops at the destination that we were going to.

We make our way out the door and we take a look at the place. In the front of the building is a big sign that clearly read, ‘Welcome to the New York, New York Hotel and Casino’. It almost brings a tear to my eye… only ‘cause I don’t ever have the time to actually go back to New York and I miss it dearly.

“Well… what are we waiting for?”

We start walking through the doors and my boys are taken back by the place. I make my way to the front desk. I approach a middle age guy, who waves his hand as soon as he sees me walking in that direction.

“Mr. Kidd. It is very nice to see you again, sir.”

“Much obliged, Bill. Do you still have my favorite room around?”

“Yeah, of course. We actually changed it, just for the fact that you’re one of more generous customers.”

He pulls out a special set of keys. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them before.

“Here are the keys to the new ‘Five Star Showmen’s Room.’”

Hmm… I like it. Kinda catchy.

“And what about the appearance money?”

“How could I forget…”

I put my hand out and I am greeted with five thousand dollars. Man I wish everything was this easy! We shake hands and I head back to the crew, who has been watching the whole time. They look at me with grins on their faces.

“You don’t come here much, Kidd?”

“I come here when I need some time to kick back and relax.”

I look at the money I was just handed.

“Hmm… let’s go make the most of this little stash I just got.”

I lead the way as we make our move into the casino. For it being the middle of the afternoon, this place still knows how to bring in the crowd. There were a lot of people spread out all over different games. From Black Jack to Five Card Stud to the quarter machine, people were just doing what it takes to make some good money in Vegas. However there was only one game I was focused at this very moment.

“Why are we heading to the Roulette Table?”

“It’s kind of like my special ritual. You see every time that I make a pit stop to a casino, the first thing that I do is take whatever money that I have in my hand… and place it on red.”

“Red?”

“Yup 25 is my favorite number.”

We finally get to the table and throw the stack of five grand at the dealer so he can put it on red. After taking the finally bet from everyone else he begins to spin the roulette wheel as I try to explain to Mike my reasoning.

“See usually I can basically judge the outcome of my gambling mood by this one bet. If it lands on black then it’s going to be a troubled day…”

The ball is slowly starting to come to an end. Everyone starts to take a closer look. Slowly it make it stop… and it lands on

Red 18… we have a winner!!

“But if it lands on red… then the sky is the limit!”

I smile I as I take my accumulated ten grand and walk to find the next game to go try my luck at.

*****

It’s been a few hours later and I’m standing outside of the hotel with a bunch of members of the camera crew. After what I can say was a very successful day in the casino I figure I spend the rest of the night confront my good old friend, just days before the match at Gold Rush. So with the signal coming from the camera guy, I do what has to be done in order to win…

“I’m really disappointed in you, my number one stunner.”

I shake my head to the camera like a father who isn’t satisfied with what their daughter has become.

“I gave the opportunity to actually step up and fight with a backbone. Something that only my greatest adversaries can say that they have dealt with and for once in that miserable stint that you call a career, I was going to let you try and sound like a real champion. Maybe you would have surprise the world and tried to show a little bit humility.

But instead you ventured off in the wrong direction. Instead you decided it would be better off if you play the whole gab game. Instead you spend your time talking to the UWF fanbase like your trying very to belittle me as much as possible.”

Kidd shakes his head.

“But what, for the love of God, I couldn’t get for the life of me is that you wanted to stand there in the middle of the ring and play the FACT game… with me? Are you kidding? Honestly, that bus that you’re riding on MUST be very short. Which to me I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s you ended up riding since you were a kid. Opening up this book is detrimental to your life… but if you really wanted to play this game… then I guess I should play this too.”

Kidd grins as he pulls out a sheet of paper.

“Fact: First and foremost, my dear please be notify that you took the WRONG approach to me. Once again, I gave you a chance. To say what you have to say and for once in your career, come into a fight bringing some kind of dignity to the match. You see, I could have easily come to Adam and ranted and rave about how I’m better than you. Saying stuff like, if Darren can talk about himself having a mini-me then maybe I should take Serena to Maury because she’s nothing short of an inexperience Ty Kidd. Or how you’re promos are nothing short than another boring segment in The Hills episode that were on MTV. The insult game is something I take pride in and just trying to be slick with your attempt to bury me is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.”

I lift a smile from my face and give the camera a thumb up.

“…But at least you get an A for effort…

Fiction: Whatever dream you were a part of. What dream? The one where you stand in the middle of the ring like the center of attention and proceed to bash me like anyone cares. The same dream where Stubblefield and Curtis must have not been notified or had the day off because Adrenaline is actually THEIR show. The same dream in where Tuesday must have came early, cause to the rest of the world it was only Saturday. And the same dream where you really think that everyone really cared about what you really had to say. Because at the end of the day, the fans and the people in the back know that all your biggest accomplishment in UWF… was becoming Darren Revel’s Monica Lewinsky.”

Just the sheer thought of it makes me shakes his head in disgust.

“You downplay my business and think you’re better than me because you’re someone’s side piece… NOT EVEN THE ENTRÉE… the side piece. Like I said you’re in a dream world, my dear.

Fact: And this one is as clear as day. As much as you can deny and think otherwise the proof keeps coming and coming right into my face. Envy has turned you green. “

I let out a ‘gasp’ at the camera with my hand over my mouth.

“What?! ‘This is not true’, you say? ‘I’m the Intercontinental and the longest reigning Television Champion what is there to be envious about?’, you say. ‘I just took part in a main event last week, what main event has Kidd been in?’, you say. Well of course… that’s what happens when you ride the coattail of someone who was higher up that yourself. You see you had the chance to earn your stripes and be respected, even if you didn’t want to be loved. And you denied. Instead you hop on the guy with the biggest rise and got noticed that way.”

I chuckle at the very thought of how things ended up.

“Which leads me to my next thing…

Fiction: You saying that I am…undeserving of being the Intercontinental champion. See I love how you continue to ride on the coat tails of your one halfway truth. Yes, for the hundredth time, I took a leave of absence. It was an absence that you obviously cared about because you had an idea of how long I was gone. But that’s not the point I’m getting to. You see, my blonde stunner, that not the whole reason why you’re mad that you’re facing The Show. The fact of the matter is that you’re mad that I left and came back to STILL be a bigger star that you are. You’re mad that when I speak out to my adoring fans, they WANT to listen to what I have to say. Where as you… not so much. See when you speak… it’s because you WANT someone to listen to you. See if you ever think that I haven’t paid my dues for this match I will give you the perfect example.”

I tell the camera guy to zoom in closer to me.

“I can name one person who that I face on my first day who is hands down better than ANYONE you faced.”

I smirk at the camera.

“Remember Joesph Setala? Everyone who is anyone does. If you don’t… then I guess you found out your place, huh?”

Little by little, drops of rain started to drop on the top of my uncovered head. And as rare as this is in Las Vegas, I was not shocked by the change in weather. I just crumble up the paper that I wrote the main points on and look at the camera with the confidence I always have as I continued to speak about what I was saying.

“See at first I was disappointed that it had to come to me versus you for one of these prestigious titles. I was worried that in the end it would develop a rift between us two and the last thing I want to do is ruin a good friendship. But… the more and more that I think about it the more I know that it’s fate. It is fate that forced us to battle to prove once and for all, who is the top wrestler in the 2009 summer class of stars. However, this battle is already won. You see, when you lay the cards out to the table for all to see you have two individuals. A deserving challenger… and an unproven champion. And if you happen to beat me this upcoming Tuesday, then you can be able to actually talk your mess as you can actually you’ve done something that was worthwhile.”

I raise a hand up as soon as I finish that sentence.

“But… that’s not going to happen. I won’t let it happen. I came up here to Las Vegas to make a point as well as relax my mind. My point to you Serena is this… I am not worried about you. What you’ve done in UWF is something that you have to mention, but at what cost. With all these facts that I spew the question is what can possible be left of you. You lost everything that made you shine when you first came here and what did you do it for. Recognition… as Revel’s bitch? It makes no sense. Where is the girl that I know? The one I met from the past.”

I laugh to myself as soon I ask that. I should have known better.

“It’s probably stuck in the past too, huh? But after the Gold Rush, there is going to be one more thing that is going to be a part of the past... and that is your reign as Intercontinental Champion. Tuesday night is coming my dear. And when it’s just seconds to the match, the talking will stop. There will be no accolade to talk about. There will be no hand motions or hairstylist. There is going to be no makeup designer to fix your blemishes.”

I shake my head.

“What there is going to be are thousands upon thousands of fans that are waiting in anticipation. There will be hundreds of people with their fingers on the shutter. There will be guys on cameras show the UWF product to MILLIONS of people worldwide. Can you handle that? Cause I can. I was born into this spotlight. I don’t know what I would do without it.”

I start to have a short case of the shakes.

“Just thinking about it gives me the shivers. Because when the music plays and the explosions start going off, it’s time to perform. And who at that time can do it better than me, ‘The Show’ Tyrone Kidd. I’ve done it since I made my arrival into the UWF and tomorrow night will not be any difference. Tomorrow will be you truest test. Tomorrow, you have the weight on being champion on your shoulder. My compadre Serena, tell me what are you going to do when you finally get in the ring with me. What are you going to do when you find out that I am not a joke? What happen, my baby girl, when you find out…

WHY I SAY…

WHAT I SAY…

WHEN I SAY…

It’s SHOWTIME!!!”
