Aaliyah(Swahili for "highest most exhalted one") Dana Haughton was born in Brooklyn,New York, January 16, 1979,and raised in Detroit. When she was 11 years old she appeared on the television show "Star Search" and sung "My Funny Valentine" unfortunately she didn't win. Aaliyah went on tour with Gladys Knight.Then at 13 years old she signed with her uncle's record label. A year later at 14, ahe released her first album, "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number". She had 5 number one hits. In 1996 she relaesed her 2nd album, "One in A Millon", which went mullti-platinum. Aaliyah won a grammy for her song "Journey To the past" on the Anastasia soundtrack and for her song "Are You that Somebody" on the Doctor Dolittle soundtrack. She played Trish O'day in the movie "Romeo must Die" and Queen Akasha in "Queen Of The Damned". Aaliyah released her 3rd album in 2001. After she finished shooting her last video,"Rock Tha Boat", she decided to go home early, But her plane crashed shortly after take off at 6:50 p.m. at Abaco Island in the Bahamas killing her instantly.
