EXPRESSION
Expressiveness 6 5 4 3 2 1 Expressiveness
refers to the extent to which the voice usage ranges from monotonous
to interesting and enthusiastic. (A
score of 6 would indicate that
the speaker’s expression was interesting/ enthusiastic where a score of
1 would mean the expression was monotonous.) Clarity 6 5 4 3 2 1 Clarity
refers to the distinctness of the articulation and the pronunciation of
words.
This is an evaluation of the clearness of the expression, not the understandability
of the meaning of the words being used.
(A score of 6 would
indicate the speaker was clear throughout and a score of 1 would indicate poor articulation.) Audibility 6 5 4 3 2 1 Audibility
refers to appropriateness of the vocal volume used by the speaker. (A score of 6 would indicate the speaker was audible throughout
and a score of 1 would indicate they could not be heard.) PHYSICAL
EXPRESSION

Contact refers to the degree to which the speaker maintains eye contact
with the listener(s). The ideal is represented
by the person who attracts
the listener’s attention and interest through use of the eyes without
making the listener uncomfortable. (A
score of 6 would indicate that
the speaker involved the audience with eye contact and a score of 1 would indicate that the speaker avoids eye contact.) Body Movement 6 5 4 3 2 1 Bodily
movement refers to the movements of the entire body as well as facial
expression, and to the use of gestures. (A
score of 6 would indicate that
the speaker focused attention and interest and a score of 1 would indicate
the speaker was stiff or erratic.) Confidence

refers to the level at which students appear self-assured. This
includes body movements that would portray confidence (i.e. smiling, good
posture,
etc). (A score of 6 indicates a
student who is poised and confident,
and a score of 1 would indicate a student who clutched the podium
and portrayed extreme nervous actions.) ORGANIZATION
Order 6 5 4 3 2 1 Order
refers to the sequencing of main points within the message. (A score
of 6 would indicate the speaker used an effective order and a score
of 1 would indicate that there was no order.) Focus 6 5 4 3 2 1 Focus
(purpose) refers to the extent to which the central topic is clear and
the sub-points are related to the topic. (A
score of 6 would indicate that
the focus was related well and a score of 1 would indicate unclear purpose.) Content 6 5 4 3 2 1 Content
refers to the information the speaker conveyed in the speech.
The speaker’s
purpose is to teach listeners about the topic. (A
score of 6 would indicate
that the speaker was successful in teaching the listeners a lot of information
about the topic and a score of 1 would indicate there was not
a lot of information in the speech.) Thesis 6 5 4 3 2 1 Students should have a clear thesis in their introduction. The thesis statement should indicate what the student’s speech is about. (A score of 6 would indicate a clear and concise thesis statement and a score of 1 would indicate no statement of purpose presented.) Lead/ Closing 6 5 4 3 2 1 Lead/Closing
refers to the student having an opening section of the speech that draws listeners in as well as a closing paragraph. (A score of 6 indicates that a students had an interesting and catchy lead and a closing that wrapped up the speech and a score of 1 would indicate no lead or closing.) Bible Verse/ Biblical Reflection 6 5 4 3 2 1 Each student
must include a Bible verse and explanation as to how the verse relates to their speech. (A score of 6 would indicate that the student used an appropriate and fitting scripture verse that was applicable to the content of the speech and a score of 1 would indicate that the student did not use a Bible verse). Written Piece/ Model 6 5 4 3 2 1 Written
piece/ Model refers to the use of students using existing written. piece and model in the presentation. (A score of 6 would indicate that the student fluidly incorporated their written piece and model in the speech and a score of 1 would indicate that the student did not incorporate their written piece or model). Visual Aide 6 5 4 3 2 1 Visual aide
refers to the use of an extra visual support piece for the speech. (i.e. poster, graph, power point) (A score of 6 would indicate that the student used an interesting visual aide that was applicable to the content of the speech and a score of 1 would indicate that the student did not have or use a visual aide). Creativity/ Thoughtfulness 6 5 4 3 2 1 Creativity
refers to the originality of the students presentation, product, and visual aide. The presentation catches the listener’s attention. (A score of 6 would indicate student’s presentation is very creative and thoughtful and a score of 1 would indicate low creativity). MISCELLANEOUS
Dress/ Gum Chewing 6 5 4 3 2 1 Dress
refers to students wearing professional (church style) clothing. (NO
SNEAKERS). Students are not to
chew gum. A score of 6 would indicate
a student who is dressed in a professional manner (not chewing
gum) and a score of 1 would indicate a student who was not dressed appropriately or chewing gum) Time 6 1 Time refers to the speech fitting in the time constraints of 7 – 10 minutes. (A score of 6 would indicate that the student’s speech was between 7 and 10 minutes and a score of 1 indicates it was less than 7 minutes or more than 10.
