Diggin in the Crates
In the late 1980s a kid by the name of Robert Hall met up with a Joe Kirkland on the way to school. In collaboration they decided to create a rap crew, at the time it started they had no name. Ultimately, they would come to be known as Diggin in the Crates. The crew gained rapid recognition throughout the Bronx borough. To earn a rep Finesse would travel to several high schools in the Bronx to battle emcees, all he wanted at the time was a rep. The experienced Lord defeated every opponent in his path except one. Andre Barnes aka Andre the Giant whom at the time was called Infinite, matched Finesse’s talent when he battled him to a draw. Showbiz (a talented deejay) through Diamond then through Finesse joined DITC, he also hooked up with AG and released their first EP together in 1991. Tired of selling drugs, Fat Joe met up with Diamond to try and start his rap career, Diamond questioning his heart challenged Joe to enter a rap contest at the Apollo, and after winning four weeks straight Diamond helped Joe get a record deal, and in 1993 Fat Joe would release his first album. Buckwild, became a producer after touring as Finesse’s DJ in 1993. Omar Credle made his official debut with DITC after his first album “Word…Life” which was produced by none other than Buckwild. Big L officially became a member of DITC when he impressed Lord Finesse in the back of “Rockin Wills” and was featured on the “Yes, You May” remix. DITC was comprised of eight handpicked emcees, deejays, and producers before the death of Lamont Coleman. DITC has never been a crew whose primary concern is making money; DITC has always been about gaining underground rec, and making hot tracks. Almost every DITC production has been critically acclaimed without exception, however, commercially DITC has seen little money. However, they have been very successful in their particular goals. Each member pursues a solo career, in which they release albums, or collaborate with other groups and artists to make cash. In some cases they have other crews, in which they associate. DITC is well affiliated associating with groups such as Gang Starr they have gained tremendous recognition. The DITC fam is just that, a family, they’re there to help each other out and to continue making hot music.
