At the age of 27 I made a career change from clothing manufacturing to
hairdressing. Having no previous experience, but with eagerness and
determination to succeed, I joined the ranks of school leavers and began my
apprenticeship. Sweeping floors, shampooing clients at the backwash basins
and waiting on a salon full of qualified hairstylists were my daily duties.
Many a day I wondered if I had made the right decision but I was committed
to finish what I had started. In addition to working in the salon I also
attended the University College of London as a part-time student.
My lucky break came when the salon owner to whom I was apprenticed to,
decided to embark on a new career. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase
the salon but was I in for a rude awakening! I was now the boss... but also
the least qualified and did I feel inadequate. In my pursuit for excellence
I realised that action had to be taken and thanks to all my hard work, I
know own more than 5 Hair Salons in the UK and I am thinking of going
international.
