Juliette Low

 

Founder of Girl Scouts of the USA

 

 

Juliette Gordon Low was born Juliette Magill Kinzie on October 31st , 1860 in Savannah, Georgia. Juliette Low was the 2nd of six children of  William Washington Gordon and Eleanor Kinzie Gordon. Her nickname was Daisy.

 

Juliette enjoyed writing poems, sketches, wrote and acted in plays, and later became a talented painter and sculptor. She had many pets throughout her life and especially liked birds and dogs. She was known for her sense of humor. In her teenage years Juliette went to a boarding school in Virginia. Later, she went to a finishing school in France.

 

On December 21st , 1886, Juliette married William Mackay Low, a wealthy Englishman. Although the couple moved to England, Juliette continued to travel to America.
