Noah's Ark 2000

The Lord came to Noah in Canada in the year 2000. Same story; the earth was wicked and Noah was to build the ark and save two of every living thing, along with a few good humans. "Here is the blueprint" said the Lord. "Hurry - in six months I start the unending rain". Six months later the rain started coming down. The Lord looked down from heaven and saw Noah weeping in his yard, no ark in sight. "Noah", He roared! "Where is the ark I commanded you to build?" "Forgive me, Lord", Noah begged. "Things have changed since we built the last ark." "Apparently I need a building permit. Then there's been the arguments with the inspectors about the need for a sprinkler system. My neighbors claimed I violated the neighborhood zoning law by building the ark in my yard so I had to appear before the city council. They were unable to reach consensus so now we have to go to the Development Appeal Board for the decision." "Even getting wood is a problem. There's a ban on cutting tree's due to a campaign to save the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls but they were not swayed by my argument." "I started gathering the animals, but then I was served with papers saying I was being sued by an animal rights group. They insisted I take more than two of each kind." "Environment Canada decided I could not build the ark without filing an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) disclosing all the scientific evidence that supported my theory that a flood was inevitable and what the potential ramifications of the alleged flood would be." "I'm still trying to resolve a complaint that was filed with the Human Rights Commission in dispute over how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew." "The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally." "Please, forgive me, Lord! I wanted to obey You and have the ark ready in six months but it appears it would take about five years to finish this ark." Noah looked heavenward, hopeful the Lord would be merciful. Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine and a spectacular rainbow arched across the sky. Noah stood there, amazed and in awe of the changes that had occurred in front of his own eyes. Finally, Noah was able to speak. "Lord, does this mean You're not going to destroy the world?" he asked. "Noah, my faithful servant", said the Lord. "It appears the government already has."
