Group History
As we all know, Destiny's Child recently came out with the self-titled debut CD from Columbia Records, The Writings on the Wall.
This remarkable achievement brings out the best in this talented Houston
quartet - Beyonce, Kelly, LaTavia, and LeToya.
Managed by Music World Management's Mathew Knowles, (Beyonce's father and Kelly's guardian),
he is responsible for their stardom. These down to earth members of
Destiny's Child have come a long way since their start during childhood. "Our
music has changed since the early days, when I was the group's rapper," reports
LaTavia. She and Beyonce have been with the group since 1990. Kelly joined
in 1992, and LeToya followed in 1993.
Although they were only nine and ten years old, spectacular events began
appearing for Destiny's Child, once they were settled. One event was their
1992 appearance on "Star Search." "We were kind of nervous about it,"
LaTavia remembers. "They made us to do a rap song, although we wanted to sing. They
even made a new hip-hop category for us. Looking back on it now though, it was a learning
experience we'll never forget."
Probably Houston's hottest attraction, Destiny's Child found
themselves sharing the mike with some of the biggest acts in the music business. Kelly recalls:
"When they came to Houston to perform, we opened for people like Immature, Dru Hill,
Nas EFX, and SWV, who gave us nothing but love, hope and encouragement."
It was just a year ago when Destiny's Child signed with Columbia Records. "That was
our turning point and we all knew it," Beyonce said. "So when it was time to make our
album, we never looked back. We were so glad to finally have the opportunity that all of the
problems of the past seemed to disappear."
Destiny's Child consists of four distinct voices that perfectly blend to make the whole
greater than just their individual parts. Kelly's vocal diversity
serves best on the up-tempo songs. LaTavia brings the song together, with her rich, deep tones. LeToya's
soprano voice is awesome, and is heard soaring over several tracks. And last but not least, Beyonce's
voice range accomodates most of the leads, owning one of r&b's strongest and most
memorable voices. This group's destiny is sure to bring the music world an unforgettable period of soul, r&b, and hip hop, all in one.
Already being compared to classic groups
like the Supremes and the Emotions, they are beginning to turn their
of "No No No's," into successful "Yes, Yes, Yes's!"
All over the world, people are seeing the amazing foursome - Destiny's Child.
They have showed us that dreams can come true, with lots of effort! Now they return
with their second single With Me! Hopefully, it does as well, or even better than their first
#1 song - No No No!
