1975 GMC "GENTLEMAN JIM" PICKUP HISTORY
Not sure how many of these 1975 GMC "Gentleman Jim" long bed, Sierra Classic 15, 1/2 ton pickups were manufactured. Have seen written, various reports ranging from 500 to 1200 being made. A fellow whose Dad had been a GMC dealer, told me only 600 of these were manufactured. I am inclined to go along with his number, although 1000 seems to be the most common number owners refer to. These were 'Promotional Pickups' for GMC, years ahead of their time in terms of all the extras on a pickup, and the quiet ride it gives -- softer than many autos.
This Gentleman Jim has:
- AIR CONDITIONING
- AUTOMATIC XMISS
- TILT WHEEL
- POWER STEERING
- POWER BRAKES
- 350 CU INCH V8
- AM/FM 8 TRACK RADIO
- 2 BUCKET SEATS WITH CONSOLE
- SLIDING REAR WINDOW
- BODY GUARD FULL BED LINER
- WELDED HEAVY DUTY REAR BUMPER
In California, no smog is needed for this age vehicle. The previous owner said a new engine was installed under factory warranty. Engine sounds great, and reportedly has about 30K miles on it. The odometer indicates 85,750 miles (actual total miles on this vehicle), and has current California registration and license.
WHY SELL IT?
I really have mixed feelings about selling this Gentleman Jim. But I'm no longer a youngster, and have other toys. To paraphrase a great writer, "Take kindly the counsel of years, gracefully surrendering those things of youth."
HOW IS THE PAINT AND CHROME? ANY RUST?
The exterior photos flatter the paint job. It has the original 2 tone paint that is fading (especially on the left side where the sun has hit it over the years). It has the original "Gentleman Jim" factory decals on both sides of the bed. I've been tempted to repaint, but car buffs give me mixed opinions. Some say to repaint, and others say keep it original. In the 10 'THUMBNAIL PICTURES" below, clicking on the tenth picture will show some body putty that has started to extrude. That is the only place that needs body repair prior to a paint job.
The chrome is excellent. Rust? Just the normal amount one might find on a vehicle that is nearly 40 years old.
ANYTHING NOT WORKING OR NEEDING ATTENTION?
The following items were the ones I was about to take care of until health problems developed:
The airconditioning had been working fine last year, but is not blowing cold now. Some transmission fluid drips on the garage floor, although the xmission works fine. Removing the radiator cap and looking at the radiator shows the radiator should probably be rodded out. But this Gentleman Jim performs well.
IMPORTANT: Although this Gent Jim performs well, before taking it on a long drive it would be prudent to have it checked by a competent mechanic---because the vehicle has been driven very little in the past 10 years.

WHAT IS INCLUDED? WYSIWYG
What you see is what you'll get, and I think the buyer will be happy with this Collector's Vehicle. You'll get a clear title. The Owner's Manual is in the glove box. The registration and license tags are current, and a smog inspection is not required in California for this age vehicle.
Of course, you'll be buying the vehicle "AS IS" --no warranty. The lucky buyer can have possession as soon as payment is received in the form of cash (USA dollars), bank electronic transfer, or after verification of a Bank/Cashier's check.
WHY ALL THIS DETAIL?
Since undergoing surgery on my mouth and throat, I have not been able to speak in an
understandable manner, so I wanted to anticipate questions and answer them here.

note in the GOLD paint below the GENT in Gentleman Jim on the fender, some old body putty is extruding.
This is the only place on the body that needs repair. ( This body putty was done prior to my buying
the vehicle 15 years ago.)
