Effective 9-19-07 we are *semi*-retiring!!! Many/most of our dogs will be under the care and ownership of close relatives in the near-by Conway, New Hampshire area. We will keep our Boys and a cpl of older girls as lifetime companions here, I will be deeply involved in the plans for future show prospects and potential litters. I am fortunate to have the respect of these young people that realize "swinging a hammer does NOT make you a carpenter", likewise.....having dogs no matter how nice and producing puppies does NOT make you a Breeder, they will look to me as their Mentor and I will continue to screen/talk to any prospective puppy owners.

Whipowil Labradors was established in 1976 when I was 18 yr's old with the addition of a black pup
named Betsy to my life. She was from mostly "Rupert Kennel" lines and I realized much
later how LUCKY I was to have this wonderful girl as my "foundation" Little did I know then what a
fantastic journey she would take me on!

I want to sincerly thank all those wonderful Mentors and Friends I've met over the yr's and am pleased to
now be able to share some of what I've learned with those that are "NEW" to the Breed. Whipowil is located
in Western Maine and the White Mountain National Forest is our backyard. Dennis and I are very lucky to have the perfect
setting to have FUN with our Labrador family. Our focus over the last 30 plus years has been to provide ourselves and
others who love the breed a healthy, sound Labrador with loving friendly temperament as well as correct conformation.

Our main focus early on was the Obedience Ring, later we had some success in the Conformation Ring too.
We are VERY PROUD Labradors that we have bred and/or owned have also excelled at Agility, Obedience,
Search and Rescue, Tracking and as excellent Hunting companions. Our Labs are very versatile *and*
smart, however we feel that one of the most important jobs of all for our Labs
is being their families loved and cherished pet!

I've "Mentored" several *new* people over the yr's and get great pleasure from seeing their growth
and participation in the Sport of Dogs!!

I strongly believe that anyone *producing puppies* should exhibit their dogs in some way; conformation,
obedience, hunt tests, etc to "prove" that they have more than a "dollar interest" in the dogs they are
breeding and that the dogs are superior representatives of their breed.

Since 1976 I've attended/entered more than three thousand events/activities with my dogs.
We were recently going thru many old newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, photo albums, etc
here and I was shocked to add up the numbers. Our dogs live and/or spend time in our home
and are our devoted pets, many grow old and die here. On occasion I will place an older puppy
or young adult in a home if it is in the best interest of the dog.

I am so very fortunate to have an "at home Veterinarian" living less than a mile from me.
Dr. Terry Michols is my friend and a wonderful resource for my dogs!! She will give reference as to
my long-term interest in Labradors, my integrity as an individual and my knowledge as a breeder.

All our Labs have appropriate OFA Hip and Elbow & Heart clearances. We also believe that
PennHip Evaluations provide a useful piece of information when evaluating the Hip health of our dogs. Eye (AVCO)
clearances are done annually. We also INSIST that one or both Parents of any planned litter be Optigen tested
"Normal/Clear" and are starting to use the "new EIC "Exercise Induced Collapse" test. We can occasionally
refer you to puppies. And at times we may have a young adult available to a caring and responsible home.

We are current or past members of the following Clubs:

Since 1984
Labrador Retriever Club of Greater Boston
Carroll County Kennel Club & Saco River Hunting Association.
