Brother, and other Stories
is the product of a journal wherein two sisters, survivors of domestic abuse
reflect in the wake of a brother’s untimely passing.
It is a dedication, a tribute and a love story.
But it became much more than that.
Separately and together, my sister and I put pen to paper
in pondering events surrounding the premature death of our brother. His near- fatal accident
as a youngster was a trauma for all of us. It left David with a lifelong disability and played
a part in his demise many years later. In unraveling the realities of our abusive home
and our own childhood reactions to events of note, the love, understanding and tenderness
between us and our departed sibling strengthened. Guilt, shame, and grief
began to drop away as a drama of heroism, tragedy, hope and remembrance unfolded
in this courageous undertaking.
