The Power of Unity
  

        Why do we hate it so much, when we feel "different", or alone in our ideas, and find it so valuable to be "on the same side" with others? 


 Meditators Know...   the power of Unity, for when they meditate in a group, the ability of all to reach ahigher level is increased...
 

 Companies know... the power of Unity, they "rally their troops" to increase power...
 

 Tyrants know... the power of Unity. They "divide and conquer" by pitting the people one against another to keep them their own power intact.
 

 Countries know...the power of Unity...this is the purpose of having a flag and a national anthem, to bring people together...
 



 Unitys'  power is increased the closer that unity is:


An army in uniform and marching in unity  creates more power than one in dress- as- you- please, loose formation

    A group of  people that follows a leader or plan down to the details shows more unity and power than one that does not;  the clearer the plans and goals followed, the greater their unity and results.

 Unity is thus multiplied when it is Organized--


      Alignment with something bigger , an ideal, an organzation, etc., is unifying; even or especially  "Something Greater" in the form of Spirit or God makes for more powerful unity.

 

 Commonalities, Diversity and Unity 

   The more commonalities shared  within a group, the greater their potential unity. This includes having similar goals, purpose, and beliefs; even the sharing of physical circumstances such as location, living situations, challenges, sex, nationality, education, etc.

    To bring diverse peoples together in spite of their differences is an important need, achievement, and development for our world.



  


     " Note.. how easily, where unity exist(s) in a given famiy, the affairs of that family are conducted; what progress the members of that family make, how they prosper in the world. Their concerns are in order, they enjoy comfort and tranquillity, they are secure, their position is assured, they come to be envied by all. Such a family.. adds... to its stature and its lasting honor... 
             " And if we widen out the sphere of unity a little to include the inhabitants of a village who seek to be loving and united, who associate with and are kind to one another, what great advances they will be seen to make, how secure and protected they will be. 
     "Then let us widen out the sphere a little more, let us take the inhabitants of a city, all of them together: if they establish the strongest bonds of unity among themselves, how far they will progress, even in a brief period and what power they will exert. And if the sphere of unity be still further widened out, that is, if the inhabitants of a whole coumry develop peaceable hearts, and if with all their hearts and souls they yearn to cooperate with one another and to live in unity, and if they become kind and loving to one another, that country will achieve undying joy, and lasting glory. Peace will it have, and plenty, and vast wealth."* (A.B.)






    *From the writings of the Baha'i, of whom it has been said that::
 Unity is their "watchword", to heal our world and bring peace. They have had notable success in bringing together diverse peoples and ideas.*
Shogi Effendi writes: 


     "Unification of the whole of mankind is the hall-mark af the stage which human society is now approaching. Unity of family, of tribe, of city-state, and nation have been successively attempted and fully established. World unity is the goal towards which a harassed humanity is striving. 

    "Nation-building has come to an end. The anarchy inherent in state sovereignlty is moving towards a climax. A world, growing to. maturity, must abandon this fetish, recognize the oneness and wholeness of human relationships, and establish once for all the machinery that can best incarnate this fundamental principle..." 
     

   The Century of Light-- Unity is Possible


       " For none is self-sufficiency any longer possible, inasmuch as political ties unite all peoples and nations, and the bonds of trade and industry, of agriculture and education, are being strengthened every day. Hence the unity of all mankind can in this day be achieved. Verily this is none other but one of the wonders of this wondrous age, this glorious century. Of this past ages have been deprived, for this century-- the century of light-- (is) endowed with unique and unprecedented glory, power and illumination. Hence the miraculous unfolding of a fresh marvel every day. 


     " Eventually it will be seen how bright its candles will burn in the assemblage of man. Behold how its light is now dawning upon the world's darkened horizon..."


     The Seven Lights of Unity -- For Our World! 


      " The first candle is unity in the 
political realm, the early glimmerings of which can now be discerned. 
         The second candle is unity of thought in world undertakings, the consummation of which will ere long be witnessed.    
        The third candle is unity in freedom which will surely come to pass.   
              The fourth candle is unity in religion which is the corner-stone of the foundation itself, and which, by the power of God, will be revealed in all its splendour. 
              The fifth candle is the unity of nations-a unity which in this century will be securely established, causing all the peoples of the earth to regard themselves as citizens of one common fatherland.    
          The sixth candle is unity of races, making of all that dwell on earth peoples and kindreds of one race. 
          The seventh candle is unity of language, i.e., the choice of a universal tongue in which all peoples will be instructed and converse.   

       Each and every one of these will inevitably come to pass, inasmuch as the power of the kingdom of God will aid and assist in their realization.*¹

  "Note then: if every clan, tribe, community, every nation, country, territory on earth should come together under the single-hued pavilion of the oneness of mankind, and by the dazzling rays of the Sun of Truth should proclaim the universality of man; if they should cause all nations and all creeds to open wide their arms to one another, establish a World Council, and proceed to bind the members of society one to another by strong mutual ties, what would happen then? There is no doubt whatsoever that the divine Beloved, in all His endearing beauty, and with Him a massive host of heavenly confirmations and human blessings and bestowals, would appear in His full glory before the assemblage of the world.
