Week 2
When summarizing a long article or book you should read it once. You should go back a second time and pick out the main points of the article and clarify these points putting them in your own words. By summarizing an article this should shorten it.

When paraphrasing an article, you take a article that is complex or difficult to read. You as the reader should understand this article in order to paraphrase it. By paraphrasing you go sentence by sentence and put it in your own words. The article should stay the same length as the original, but just more easily readable.

When quoting someone else's work you use their words exactly as they did but in your article. You use someone else's words sometimes because it makes your paper more credible or impressive. But on the other hand if you use too many quotes you take away ownership of your paper. When using quotes you have to use quotation marks around their words "". You must always identify or name the author's quote.

A writer should summarize when he wants to make a shorter version in his own words of someone Else's work. He would paraphrase an article when he needs to be more precise than a summary. A paraphrase is the same length as the original article you are paraphrasing. When using quotes he would use them to make his paper seem more credible.
