Superb pitching and lively bats helped the A's shock BoniVital
11 - 9 Monday night at Provencher park. The win was the third straight
for a constantly improving St. James team.
David Cameron contained the BlackSox for four solid innings,
allowing only two runs and one hit. Kyle Gibson pitched well to hold
off a late rally and Eric Flynn produced two outs to shut the game down.
Cameron and Matt Dillman led the charge offensively, each
singling 3 times, while Matt Hendrickson batted in 2 runs (including
the winner) in the fifth inning with a hard hit double.
Trailing after four innings, BoniVital again attempted
to rally late in the game Tuesday night at Optimist Park. Again, they
scored one run in the 6th and again they scored four in the 7th. This
time it was enough to get the BlackSox past the A's and even the series
at one game apiece.
The A's had considerably less success at the plate in this
game, scoring only 3 runs on 6 base hits. The Tilbury-Furber tandem
struck out 10 batters (5 of them looking). This was in spite of numerous
terrific at bats and two deep Jason Mandryk smashes that found their
way into fielder's gloves.
The game was marred by some questionable calls, and Hendrickson's
nearly disastrous crash into the centre-field fence. Matt was okay,
and held onto the ball (of course) to make one of the most superb catches
of the year.
Other highlights included a pefect bunt (and RBI) by Kelby
Wildeman and a sharp play by Kyle Gibson to snag a liner and kick his
bag to turn a critical double play in the first inning.
