Dear Spitfire enthusiasts,
It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you my dear Dad, known to you all as “Squadron Leader”, sadly passed away on the 2nd of March after a very brave eight-year battle with cancer.  His website www.spitfiremk2a.co.uk was his pride and joy and I honestly don't think there was a bigger Spitfire enthusiast than he.
As a mark of respect I am temporarily taking his website offline.  However, I fully intend to repost it in its entirety at some point a little further down the road as it truly was his passion.
My Dad had been researching the Spitfire  --  and in particular the little known "City of St Albans" MkIIa P8144  --  ever since I was a little girl and while I have developed a great fondness for this fine aircraft myself, I’m afraid I am nowhere near the expert my Dad was.  When I am finally able to republish his website I regret I will not be able to provide answers to your questions or update histories.  Once republished, my current plan is to simply leave it as my Dad left it and allow it to stand as a fitting tribute to his many years of hard work and dedication, as well as a lasting tribute to his beloved Spitfires.
I know many of you were regular visitors and my Dad deeply appreciated your kind words and he was always more than happy to help solve your problems and answer your questions.  And he was also honoured that so many of you chose to share your own photographs and memories with him and your fellow visitors.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued interest and honest support.  I know it meant a lot to my Dad, and therefore it means a lot to me, too.
Kindest regards,
from Laura
- the “Squadron Leader’s” daughter  :)
