One of the three Unforgivable Curses that were so popular during the tyrannical times when Voldemort was still powerful, the Imperius curse was used to force people to act against their wills with no outward indications that it was being used. The curse is evident to the person it is being performed on by a floating sensation as if the mind has been wiped of all thought, except for a voice commanding the person to act in the desired way. Those with a strong character can fight off the curse with practice. The use of the curse is enough to earn a life sentence in Azkaban.
