that manifests the form of heart’s desire,
which scalds the soul, then tauntingly suppresses
the skill to fathom what the burn expresses
and leaves the mind to wander through its pain,
an empty numbness asking ev’r again:
what passion’s this that wracks one’s fiber so,
forever shreds their spirit with one blow,
then leaves them ravaged, never why to know?
