The vision- Remember falling in love in high school? Did you become such close friends that she couldn't picture you as a boyfriend? Did you believe deep down in your heart that she was the one for you? Did you interpret different things she said and did the wrong way? This is how tubar felt when he met this girl we will call "E". After finding out that she only thought of him as a friend and he was unable to show his love for her, he used music to vent his frustration and romantic tendencies. Fueling the music was the vision, a "theatrical stage" inside tubars head where a second life would take shape after tubars confiend thoughts and emotions showed up. Although early songs that concern the vision are not lyrically complete-and have sporadic and different thoughts....the vision becomes stronger towards the beginning of the new millennium. Also to keep his feelings concealed, word play was used to prevent anyone figuring out tubars true feelings and his loves identity. It was this vision that kept the kissing farries going after Andy vendetti left. It was the one tubar loved that created the vision. Depression is caused when a person holds feelings and thoughts inside with out expressing them or releasing them. Instead of prozac (which interfered with the LSD use at that time) tubar created the world inside his mind. Here thoughts could be expressed, played out, and released. At the same time i would have inspiration for my music.
SIGNS OF THE VISION AND HOW I INTERPRET THE VISION IN KISSING FARRIE SONGS
THE DEBUT ALBUM 1994
Why i cry (the phone song)- this is the first song on the first kissing farries album. The strange, majestic, backwards, melody creates a heartwarming and beautiful melody that allows you to place yourself in a different atmosphere. As you release yourself with the music the vision appears as tubar replies, "what do you want? I dont want nothing off you." The lyrics create the vision of a person fighting within his own mind. Like your conscience giving you both sides of the story, this lyrical contemplation of looking at both sides of the story will become a staple in the farries style.
Songs like "snot up" "land of mushroom" "happier" have a few references to the vision and the muse. However since it was the first album and lyric skills weren't up to par (they still aren't) there is not much i need to explain about in theses three songs.
COACHMEN LOUNGE
The vision slowly improves with the farries second release, however it is not as present as it will be in the future. "Short Hair Vegetarian" is a song based on word play or a strange metaphor. The term short hair vegetarian was supposed to represent "changing women" in the generation X. Women who no longer have long hair and eat what the man orders. A women who will not wait on u hand and foot and do the dishes as long as you fix the car and take out the trash.
Ukaliptis Tree and Raged Society are two songs that confirm the vision as a place fantasy with in the mind. Ukaliptis trees are what grow in the vision and supply the marijuana that tubar uses in the real world to reveal the vision. Raged Society condemns tubar for leaving the real world...and at the same time tubar condemns himself for condemning HIM!....MAn thats f**Ked up...
ZIPPERSNIFFER
This album is known for the vision meeting the muse. In tubars opinion the idea sounded great...this was just what he needed to give her that no one else could and a connection could be made in the real world and the vision could be destroyed and/or turned into something obtainable in the real world. But maybe the vision sensed its destruction...and was prepared to fight.
Tecno Baby- represents the battle between old school and new school...and new schools transition into old school. This is also intensified by the mixture of blues rhythm and tecno drums. Towards the end of the song the vision takes over. The samples from the movie carrie yell out...The first sin is intercourse and i was so scared mom-ma they all laughed at me.
Ufo- Like ukaliptis tree, UFO is a song explaining the separation from reality. The words, "Yellow man takes his time," Represent tubar calling himself a chicken for not confessing his love.
Like previous farrie albums, tubar rips on himself for how he feels. He obviously doesn't want the listener to think he's constantly complaining. But whats unique about zippersniffer is because Elizabeth is ripping into tubar to and saying, "Hey stop writing songs that state you can only make me happy. "I don't need you," "I dont want you." Those were the words from "YEAH (YEAH, YEAH)." The truth is tubar and Betsy wrote that together and i dont know if tubars ripping on himself...and having Elizabeth say it or if Elizabeth has sensed what tubar feels and she is using the music to express her thoughts to him like he does to her.....NOW YOU SEE THAT THE VISION HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN...and now one has control....yet..............
Breath Protective is the strangest song to decode EVER!!!! I ask myself, is it word play? Or is Breath Protective a psychedelic mess created by too much drugs. After creating such a liberal and independent song like YEAH. Breath Protective says the same stuff as yeah but in a round-a-bout more less aggressive way. The words "i never cried the day you left" and "never took something you gave to me" is also portraying a strong, "i dont need anyone", attitude. Breath protective tries to ignore the independence by saying "drugs mix my words and set me free" or drugs make her need me and our love would be free. Whats even stranger about this song is that when you compare it to previous and future love songs inspired by the vision and about the muse, a child like or strange word play appears in the song. Breath protective's lyrics "beach balls cotton mouth, refried beans in the south," make no sense but sound rhythmic and/or strangely stimulating when you sing them in song with the B.P melody.
Nolee- Pronounced noal-lee is a love song inspired by a cat. Tubar jokes he was envious of the cat because of all the touching and stroking he was receiving from Elizabeth. The truth is, in the vision you can achieve a sense of what the cat feels.
Think I'm in love pt.1 is tubars conversation with the vision
Humors and Madmen- is the farries attempt to return to the heart warming atmosphere achieved in "why i cry (the phone song)" which was released on the debut album.
Babe-A and What would you say are humorous grasps on the vision. i feel its good to keep a good heart and "high" sprits when going through something like this (not having the one you love)...
