INTERESTS:

[[[---CHADO---]]] I am currently studying Japanese tea ceremony. The style/school that I practice is called Urasenke. If you are interested in Japanese tea ceremony, click on the Urasenke link for more information.

[[[---IKEBANA---]]] I am also studying Japanese flower arranging. The style which I am studying is called the Saga Go Ryu style. This is one of the oldest styles of Japanese flower arranging.

Whereas a traditonal arrangement from the florist's might look something like this.

An ikebana arrangement has many variations such as this.

[[[---TRAVEL---]]]

ASIA: Japan, China, Taiwan

SOUTH AMERICA: Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uraguay, Brazil

EUROPE: Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK, and Morocco.

These are some pictures from my trip to Portugal, Spain and Morocco.

The city of Obidos, located in Portugal, looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. It is very beautiful and picturesque.

The Alhambra is a Moorish summer castle in Spain.

Donkeys headed to market in the Medina in the city of Fez. (Morocco)

Where I'd go from here---> Indonesia.

[[[---MODERN JAPANESE LITERATURE---]]]

My favorite genre of literature is Modern Japanese Literature--the "Modern" part designates that the literature was produced post-Western influence. Anyway, if you have the time you might want to track down some of my favorites. I've listed them by author to expedite the process a little, just in case you can't find it by title:

>>>>>>>>>HARUKI MURAKAMI>>>>>>>>>>

A Wild Sheep Chase

Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

Dance Dance Dance

The Elephant Vanishes

Norwegian Wood

The Wind Up Bird Chronicle

Pinball, 1972

South of the Border, West of the Sun

Sputnik Sweetheart

"So that's how we live our lives. No matter how deep and fatal the loss, no matter how important the thing that's stolen from us---that's snatched right out of our hands---even if we are left completely changed, with only the outer layer of skin from before, we continue to play out our lives this way in silence. We draw ever nearer to the end of our allotted span of time, bidding it farewell as it trails off behind. Repeating, often adroitly, the endless deeds of the everyday. Leaving behind a feeling of immeasurable emptiness." (Murakami 1999, 206-207)

[[[---CHILDREN'S LITERATURE---]]]

Lensey Namioka's The Loyal Cat

Demi's The Empty Pot

[[[---MUSIC---]]]

Some of the music artists I like.....hasn't changed much since high school: John Coltrane, Bebel Gilberto, Joao and Estrud Gilberto, The Beastie Boys, Bjork, Depeche Mode, Dido, Duran Duran, Everything but the Girl, Erasure, Garbage (before Shirley fell in love), Goldie, Linkin Park, Lush, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Pizzacato Five, Red Flag, The Smiths, White Zombie...there's a bunch of artists that I can't think of now, but anyway, that's a peek into my musical tastes....I am better off buying movie soundtracks than actual full length cds.

The music on this page is Dido & Tricky, I'm not sure what the song title is.
