The Rock 'n' Roll Heart of Sydney!

Welcome to THE ROCKING 50s!

This is really two clubs in one. Rocking 50s is for dancers and prancers while Beggars Banquets are more for people who prefer dining out. We even have a bushwalking section.

ROCKING 50s
This is really three clubs in one – Rocking 50s, Roaring 40s and Sizzling 60s! Each club features its own style of music, but age isn't a factor because just about everyone likes just about all the music we play! Also we run the Beggars Banquets and Movie Munch nights, plus bushwalks and all sorts. So there's plenty to be getting on with this summer!

Other dance clubs seem to concentrate on chart hits and standards from the 1970s to the present, where-as, at Rocking 50s, we plan to wind back the clock further, like, back to the Elvis era! Mostly Rock 'n' Roll, but also the romantic music of Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and the like. The volume will be quieter and the pace more relaxed.

There is no set age restriction, but bear in mind we will not be playing modern what I call "T & A muzuk" (nice arse, pity about the music!). This group is for people who love 1950s Rock 'n' Roll and nostalgic music from the past – (as opposed to nostalgic music from the future...)

HOUSE PARTIES
Most Saturday nights we hold rockin' rendezvous parties at various venues around about, but generally in the Leichhardt to Parramatta areas. Our parties are relaxed and easy-going, not huge affairs, generally attracting around 50-60 people. We don't claim to be the biggest, the loudest or the wildest club in Sydney – that's not what we're about - however, we may well be the friendliest.

JAZZIN' & JIVING AROUND!
Once a month we'll be organising dances at medium sized licenced clubs. Our DJ is 'Bodgie', aptly named because he is not what you might call a "precision DJ" – i.e. obsessed with beats per minute and the technical side of the business. Instead he is a friendly, zany guy who invites people onto the stage to dance and who makes every mistake in the book but people love him (read – tolerate!) because of his wonderful selection of music.

'Bodgie' plays mostly 1950s Rock 'n' Roll as well as some nostalgia (Ella and Frankie!) plus Latin American and even some Carribean sounds. It's a rare mix, no one else in Sydney plays such a diverse range of exciting yet romantic music - sheer Artistry in Rhythm!

BEGGARS BANQUETS!
Every Thursday night we meet at an affordable BYO restaurant for fun and frolics. Beggars Banquets are an exciting way of meeting new people and forming worthwhile relationships. For more information about these functions, pull the lever marked "Beggars Banquets".

BUSHWALKS & SIGHTSEEING
Most Sundays, depending on the weather, we meet for either a stroll or a struggle. Like, some days we'll wander or crawl around Balmain, or we might hike to the Jenolin Caves and back again before lunch (well, we could try, couldn't we?) Visits to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, picnics on the rocks at Northbridge, exploring the battlements at Middle Head before they get blown up by free-enterprise fascists, and so on. Tell us where you'd like to visit and we'll include it on the itinerary.

EMAIL LIST
Finally, before you go, may I suggest you get on the Rocking 50s email list. That way there's two-way communication and you will miss nothing, in fact you will be an informed little Vegemite. Drop us a line at rocking50s@lycos.com or just click the email me! thingo.

P.S. if you're with hotmail, remember to include us in your address book or on your 'safe list' otherwise our memos to you will end up lonely and dejected in your junk mail.

Ciao f' now,
Doug Monroe
