SCALE SECTION NEWS : FEBRUARY 2008.

Attendance at the Pond remains static with the “faithful few” to be found every Sunday and every second Wednesday putting their boats in the water, not that the weather has been too kind.

It was nice to see Lucien and Mervyn on Sunday at the AGM,pity we don’t see them more often

Rob May continues to chase camels around the Pyramids but should be back for a visit soon(he is taking Peta on a Nile cruise in the interim)

Hope things are improving with John Forbes and look forward to seeing him soon.

The visit by Neville and Jane Rudram of Centurion (between cruises on the QE2) was also a welcome feature of the period, things have been very quiet with no signals from the inland matelotes for some time.

Praveen brought along a friend of his ,Willie who has just completed a very good scratch built model of the tug “Ulundi”based mainly on personal observation at the Maritime Museum. We have supplied a copy of my plans of the “JR MORE” to him as he is keen to now build a 1:48

Model of the “Sturrock”on which the plans are based.Lets hope we see an application for membership form in the near future.

Every Thursday Evening 1st Race starts at 17:30 Sharp

A small but high quality fleet of RCL skippers gathered at the Pond yesterday for the Valentines Regatta. With 8 skipper present but only 10 competeing as Dr Jack RCL80 had problems with his transmitter. Thank you Jack for taking the duties of the Race Officer for the the mornings racing. A bog thank you to Norrie RCL23 for laying the course for the racing and all those who helped retrieve the buoys after racing.

The racing was fast and furious with the whole fleet on the 'storm rig' with a good north easterly blowing for the whole regatta and 12 races were completed by 13h00. 4 different skippers took 1st places with Norrie RCL23 topping the list. The overall results show Norrie RCL23 ~ 1st, Andrew RCL7 ~ 2nd & Terry RCL110 ~ 3rd. Bjorn RCL8 found speed after adjusting his sail and also won a few races. Well done to everyone. Full results attached

A braai was enjoyed at the club house after sailing which was great and then about 15h00 the westerly 'buster' came through and blew us all home!!

Dont forget there is sailing this Thursday at 17h30, 10 RCLs sailed last Thursday so Thursday sailing is still popular
