My 1993 Jeep YJ

<

Drive/Power Train

I6 4.0 Liter

I'm extremely happy with the performance of my stock i6 4.0. Everybody these days is saying, "Go V8." and "350 is an easy switch.", lay off it for a couple, cause I'm doing fine with my 6 Cylinder. At this point in my offroad career, it produces enough push and pull and carry more than it's own weight. If you have the right gearing for the right size of tires and use, I think you could stick with an i6 forever. Although, yes, I too have plans for maybe a 350 swap.

AX-15 Transmission (Automatic)

I still have the stock transmission because I nor the previous owner has had any problems with it. For a while there I thought I messed up something in there pretty bad when I was having problems with it shifting too hard, but later found out it was a bad motor mount. I found that with a watchful eye on my fluid levels Valvoline 75,000+ does the trick. I've heard of people on JeepForum.com using all sorts of different stuff that's supposed to be better, but I haven't purchased any for myself.

Axles

Up front I have a Dana 44 with diff cut-off, Detriot Locker and Rancho RS-5000's, Disc Brakes. In the rear is a Ford 9" with the same specs; diff cut-off, Detriot Locker and Rancho RS-5000's, except the breaks are drums.

Suspension

4" BDS Leaf Springs

BDS has been very helpful to me while asking questions about future products and how my current springs are doing. I don't know how well BDS springs ride or flex though, because I didn't put them on this YJ, they came with them on, and god know's how long that has been. Maybe 10 years! The front right leaf is starting to say very badly, but besides that the lift seems to be pretty good. I would buy.

1" Body Lift

Not much to say about it. Body lifts just help out with the clearance of tires and to replace older parts. In my opinion anymore than 1" for a Daily Driver is too much, but if for offroading, I still wouldn't go more than 2".

Tires & Wheels

33x12.50 BF Goodrich All Terrians

For how low the tread was when I got this Jeep, the tires did extremely well. I would recommend these A/T to anyone. Next upgrade will definatly be tires, just not sure what I will get yet. They will be 33's still and M/T this time for sure. I talked to this guy at JeepRecyclers and he said he got his 4 and spare for $600 and he could get me the same deal. They seem pretty knarly.

Wheels

Yeah, stock wheels. I don't think they look too bad and I'll probably keep them for a while. Everyone says I'd like them better painted black. I agree, just not these ones!

Extras

Armor & Skids

I have a couple of skid plates. One under the belly over the transmisson, both rear corners, Rock Crushers on both sides, and a small Gas Tank guard.

Electronics

Newest to the arsenal is some Pioneer 6x9's in the back. I worked at Best Buy at the time and got them for cheap. Put them in their own enclosures and took off the overhead soundbar. They sound way better. I put an old CB in from my dads old Chevy that he used "Back in the day.". Hooked that baby up to a 6 footer and a PA on the other end.

Stereo is still the stock tape/radio because I run it off of an iPod and just play it through the radio. I'll be stepping up to a new deck soon.

I was lucky when I bought this Jeep because the previous owner took the luxury of installing On Board Air (York Compressor) and a Ramsey Pro-9000x Winch. Both I have used many times and have yet to fail me.
