Miranda BudimanOn the afternoon of Oct. 31, 1998, four-year-old Miranda Elaine Budiman of Dallas, Georgia, was preparing to celebrate Halloween with her mother, Tara. Instead, Miranda’s father, Iwan Budiman, the estranged husband of Tara, took the child aboard a Japanese Airlines jet to Tokyo. When Tara returned home from work that evening, she found that her husband and daughter, as well as her husband’s car and various personal belongings, were gone. On Nov. 2, 1998, Iwan and Miranda flew to Jakarta, Indonesia, where his parents live.
