Kula's Question and Answer: What was your first exposure to surfing? Kona, Hawaii. My dad and my uncles surfing at Lymans, Banyans, and Pine Trees. What made you decide to try it? My family surfs and I wanted to follow them into the water. What was your first surfing experience like? How much salt water did you swallow? Uh…I don't swallow. Anyone else in your family surf? Does Mom shoot the curls? My daddy and my two older sisters surf. Would you consider dating a guy who doesn't surf? Hell no!!! What else do you like besides surfing? Dancing Hula, fishing, diving, and traveling. What are the most common misconceptions about surfers? That we say, "dude!" We don't. What do you like best about surfing? It's always free. Explain the difference between a "soul surfer" and a "competitive surfer." Which are you? Soul surfer. What do you want to get out of this competition? What is your ultimate goal? To travel and to soak up everything that the surfing industry has to offer. My goal is to show the world that women's surfing is multi-faceted. Who do you listen to before you go surfing to pump you up? What's in your CD player now? Thick Tubes, my friend's band, and Puddle of Mud. What was your worst bail ever? What happened? I got seven stitches in my okole (Hawaiian for buttocks). I was surfing gas chambers on the North Shore. What would the surf movie based on your life be called? No Play, No Pay. Charge Um.
