The Costa Blanca, or White Coast, is one of Spain's principal vacation areas. By far the most popular resort is Benidorm, which has a long stretch of beach, many high-rise hotels, animal parks, the new Terra Mítica theme park, and other entertainment. The area's capital is Alicante (Alacant), a pleasant Mediterranean city dominated by the castle of Santa Bárbara. Just to the southwest are the palm groves of Elche (Elx), a beautiful remnant of Arab agriculture in Europe. Murcia is the center of a major agricultural region and has a Gothic cathedral with a beautiful Baroque façade.
