My Reflective Essay
Welcome to my web site, this project has been part of a final for
my Writing 121 class. So that explains all of the essays. I hope that from reading
my essays you can learn a little bit more about me and my writing style. This
year, I have learned how to be a better writer. Now I know what you’re
saying, yes you learn every year, but this year especially has helped me improve
my writing and find my own personal style that makes my writing unique to me.
In this site you will find three formal essays I have written for class,and
four more informal pieces that I have put together for fun and amusement. My
first piece is a personal essay, and for that I chose to write about a month
long exchange program I took to Spain this past summer. I probably like this
piece the best out of them all. The trip was very important to me and I learned
many important things about life, and where it can take you.
The second formal piece that I have included is my persuasive essay. It is about
the presence of military recruiters in our schools. I wrote this piece about
because, many people get all up tight about the military and its recruiting
tactics. I think that this essay helps to clarify why the military recruits
in schools and hopefully inform people about the military today. I hope you
enjoy this piece.
My third formal piece is my autoethnography piece about my culture. I chose
to write this piece focusing on the difference between parents, children and
the fine balance that exists in their relationship. This piece is my lest favorite
of the three, and I am not sure why. I guess I just don’t feel that it
is quite as developed as my other pieces.
On my site I have also included some shorter pieces, that hopefully you will
find interesting. My first is actually a piece I wrote for my spanish class,
in spanish. It is about my homestay in Spain last summer. Since foreign languages
are such an important part of my life, I wanted to include something representing
their va;ue to me.
My second informal piece is one that I wrote for a scholarship essay, it is
about my favorite sport, cross country. This piece really helps portray my passion
for the sport, it has been an important part of my high school career and changed
my life for the better. This piece was included because it portrays my emotions
well and I feel is a good example of my writing.
Another informal piece on my site is a letter that I wrote for Writing 121.
It is written from the point of view of a dying even year old. He is writing
to an old lady who has promised to give a large sum of money to the person who
can write the best letter explaining why they need it. The letter was fun Writing
from a different point of view other than my own, was a more difficult than
I expected, but added a new level to my writing.
My last piece is really just for fun. It is basically a list of things I do
and don’t like. I had a lot of fun making this page and I hope you enjoy
learning something about me.
This semester, and really this year as a whole, I have really grown as a writer.
This semester we worked on grammar quite a bit, and since I feel that my grammar
skills are weak, this was extremely useful. I hope to continue to improve my
grammar and conventions throughout the years to come.
I feel that my strengths as a writer lie more in my content and style of writing.
Once I feel I have a good idea about what I want ot write about, it becomes
easy for me to let the words flow onto the paper. I enjoy writing on many different
topics and I cant wait to continue writing in college.
All in all I hope that you will enjoy reading my work. I know you might like
some pieces, and I realize that you may not like others. Making this web site
has been really fun, and definitely a learning experience, seeing as how I have
never made a web site before, I realize the sit is not overwhelming;y professional,
