GROUNDHOG

The groundhog has been dubbed
"PunxsuTowney Phil"...a nod to that more
famous weather-forecasting rodent
in Pennsylvania.

Another Animal Story

Pennsylvania may have "Punsxatawny
Phil," but the folks in Louisiana have
a new spin on this "ode to winter" tradition.

Along the banks of the Red River
in northwest Louisiana,
Louisiana prognisti-"gators" will
anxiously await the appearance
of "Claude the Cajun crawfish" to
crawl out of the mud and announce:
"If eets OK
bayou, we say 'adieu' to winter, cher!"

And after the recent unusual Southern
snowstorms, there's not a shadow of
a doubt the crawfish will predict warm,
sunny weather -- otherwise, he
knows he'll end up in the soup
(or gumbo, in this case).
