FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS So, what is www.classicwrestlingreports.com? Primarily, it is a website that showcases a complete collection of my reports on the 'WWE Classics' show, that airs weekly on television here in the U.K. As a whole site, it is basically a nostalgia site, with results pages from the shows I have reported on, and a listing of the various synopsis' of each show reviewed. The site also features bios of all the wrestlers involved, as well as a search facility. In addition, there are results and brief reports from other shows that I have seen live in the U.K., namely from the WWE, WCW and WWA promotions. How long have you been writing these reports? Since January 2002. All of my reports have initially appeared (and continue to initially appear) on the www.wrestlingobserver.com website. What made you want to set up this site? Well, I'm a huge wrestling fan, who loves nostalgia, and loves writing about wrestling. I'm just a fan, I have no pretensions about being a 'wrestling journalist', nor do I have any desire to be in the wrestling business (although I do have huge respect for those that are). I simply enjoy reporting on a show that I like to watch on television. My reports initially appeared on www.wrestlingobserver.com, and I received a great response from readers who e-mailed me. In recent months, I had written that many reports, that people had begun to e-mail me and ask if there was any way that they could access my previous reports. As a wrestling fan, I know for a fact that there are very few sites on the 'net that carry results of WWF/WCW t.v. shows from the early 1990's. So I knew that this site would be filling a void. Finally, I had never set up a website of any kind before, and had always wanted to. How can I watch 'WWE Classics'? Is it available outside the U.K.? Do you trade tapes of the shows? This is the most frequently asked question that I get in e-mails. 'WWE Classics' is only broadcast in the U.K., on the Sky Sports channels. It is broadcast on a weekly basis, usually on Thursdays. Times vary, but generally speaking, it airs at 7am on a Thursday, repeated later that day at 5:30pm and also later on that night at 10pm. It is also repeated for a third and final time on Saturday mornings at 7am. I do not trade tapes, never have done and never will. Besides it being illegal (and as of late, WWE is cracking down on tape traders, so it's not worth the risk), I have virtually no free time to dub tapes. How long has the 'WWE Classics' series been airing on television in the U.K.? The 'WWE Classics' series has been airing on television in the U.K. since January 2000. Initially, it broadcast old episodes of 'WWF Championship Wrestling', from 1982 and 1983. At the start of 2001, this changed, with the debut of 'WWF Wrestling Challenge'. This series began with the very first episode, from September 1986. The shows aired in chronological order from that point onwards, all the way up to the 'July 24th, 1988' episode. In November 2002, due to the WWE's name change from WWF, it was decided that it would be best not to continue airing an old WWF show that prominently featured the WWF name (in case it upset those nice people at the World Wildlife Fund). In its place aired 'NWA Worldwide Wrestling', the first episode being from June 1990. From that point onwards, up to the present day, it has continued to air, in chronological order. How come there are a few gaps in your results/reports listings? Occasionally (rather annoyingly), Sky/WWE have decided to skip a week, in what they broadcast. On the whole though, the vast majority of weekly NWA/WCW Worldwide episodes from June 1990 are accounted for on this site. What's the deal with that bios section on your website? I have purposely written the bios for each of the wrestlers so that they are in-sync with the current product on t.v. Hence Big Van Vader is yet to make a major impact, and Cactus Jack is still finding his feet as a wrestler in WCW. I intend to update the bios over time, as the product and the characters evolve. How come some of the bios are written in kayfabe? Ah, yes, you're talking about the Arachniman and Badstreet bios, aren't you? My excuse is that everyone knows that Brad Armstrong is the man behind the mask of both guys (I've mentioned it myself in my reports on numerous occasions), so I thought it would be fun to write the bios in classic WCW Magazine style. Where did you get the cool pictures on your website from? Some of the pictures are from my own collection, but the majority are from a very cool website that supplies me with the pictures- www.goodieukcaps.com. Links for that site are provided on my links page. I hope I have answered any questions that you have about this site. In time, I intend to add any answers to further questions that I am given. In the meantime, if you have any questions at all, you can e-mail me at StephenJosephLyon@blueyonder.co.uk |
