Approximately 1 in 6 children currently diagnosed with Autism may in fact have a little known disorder called Landau Kleffner Syndrome (LKS).
Landau Kleffner Syndrome is a rare form of childhood epilepsy that is characterised by an abnormal EEG (but not necessarily seizures), a severe receptive and/or expressive language disorder and some form of behavioural problems or characteristics associated with the current diagnosis of autism or ADHD.
LKS is not a form of autism although the two disorders share numerous common traits. LKS children do tend to have a better prognosis than autistic children, as a portion of the disorder (abnormal EEG) can be treated effectively.
This book is a must read for any parent who wants to know more about LKS, who thinks their child may have LKS or wants to know how their child sees the world and what they can do to help them to communicate with others and manage their day to day lives.
This book has been written by the parents of an LKS child, for other LKS parents. It is presented in a simple and easy to read format, with many practical solutions to problems that only the parents of an LKS child would know.
