called Landau Kleffner Syndrome (LKS).
Landau Kleffner Syndrome is a rare form of childhood epilepsy that is characterised by an abnormal EEG
(but not necessarily seizures), a severe receptive and/or expressive language disorder and some form of
behavioural problems or characteristics associated with the current diagnosis of autism or ADHD.
LKS is not a form of autism although the two disorders share numerous common traits. LKS children do
tend to have a better prognosis than autistic children, as a portion of the disorder (abnormal EEG)
can be treated effectively.
