NATIVE HAWAIIAN PLANT SOCIETY THREE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

As derived from our bylaws, Preservation (and restoration) of Hawaiian native plants is the main focus of NHPS for the next three years.  Public education and cooperation with like-minded entities are major components of preservation.

Preservation:  We will move from a single specimen approach, (a tree museum) to a ecosystem-wide approach by
1. Maintaining existing exclosures and worksites and expand them to an ecosystem focus
2. Exploring new and improved techniques
3. Seeking to establish new exclosures as available

Cooperation:  We'll solidify existing relationships by
1. Updates, shared workparties, phone calls, newsletters, annual reports to landowners and mahalos
2. More contact, including electronic, with other botanical societies in the state, perhaps leading to a state-wide association

Education:  We'll continue working to education the public on native plant issues by
1. Continuing our public meetings
2. Creating and enhancing relationships with schools
3. Emphasizing education on our outings, perhaps with an education coordinator on project workparties, also handouts
4. Increasing our name recognition with bill caps, tee-shirts, and bumper stickers
5. Seeking more media
