You have found a unique experience in what we term off-the-grid' in the subtropical rainforest of Maui, Hawaii. It is a 1/4mile trek up a grassy(sometimes muddy) trail from Hana Highway. Pristine and peaceful, also challenging in some ways to most people-- it presents a marveleous opportunity to cultivate patience, ingenuity and perseverence. Much of what is taken for granted in 'normal' settings must be felt in new ways here. An open, flexible, conscious attitude is required.

To describe Lomilomi Hahapono's Singing Bamboo Shack is simple: makeshift construction of a fairly solid leak and mosquito-proof structure offering fantastic ocean views over banana patches, coconut palms and numerous other plants.

Large picture windows of plastic allow fragrant breezes to grace us. Your sixth sense may very will come alive in this slowed pace and high vibration of the jungle. The fridge, stove and shower water heater are all fueled by propane gas that is carried up to the house, as is drinking/cooking water.

You are thus asked to bring a gallon of water per person per day which can be purchased at any supermarket 'on the other side' by Kahului Airport, some of which you may drink en route. The house is solar powered so lanterns are used at night. A flashlight, candle, raingear and sneakers are also advisable. Now you may be prepared for the unexpected, the beauty and the peace of this rustic abode.
